The Golden Anniversary of the Golden Arches.
So says the special edition cover of Nations Restaurant News.
Micky D's is in 119 countrys around the world.
The original concept was hatched by Dick and Maurice Mc Donald.
In 1961 Ray Kroc purchased the company from the McDonald Brothers
for 2.7 million.
Fifty years and 31,000 units later and $19.01 billion dollars in sales for 2004

Hi Tim,

McD's was a pup when I was courtin my gal (met her 46 years ago) we've been married for 43.

Had many of their $.15 burgers back then! You could go to a movie get a burger, fries and a shake and still not spend $5 for two people! Gas was about $.20 a gallon too.

Were old farts now, rarely do we go to Mc Donald’s! Who knows in a few years I may be one of those old folks, clearing tables! :)

How much would it cost you now a days to eat out in comparison Dave?

I eat at Mickey D's. Its part of the business. Eat, clean, sleep, repeat if necessary.
Goat.

Dave doesn't go back far enough. A double-feature movie theater admission was 9 cents - we usually snuck in because I seldom could save 9 cents. Burgers 2 for a quarter. All day at swimming pool 9 cents (Verdugo Pool in case Matt is reading this). A running '32 duece or '41 Chevy might cost from $10 to $150. I bought a near-new '58 Plymouth for $50. Hourly wage usually one dollar, which offsets these seemingly low prices. Life was tough, but we didn't have the expense of computers, televisions (just being introduced), and even a household telephone. Married 47 years this summer.

WOW Talk about inflation!
Dollar an hour. Isnt that what they pay in Mexico to assemble all the gadgets we buy here in the US.
American dollar is loosing ground to the EURO.

Hecho de mano en mexico - por los pobres.

Never fear - the American dollar is king in every corner of the globe.

My first job paid $1.60 per hour. When Peg and I got married in '62 I got a new job (shipping & receiving clerk) that paid $1.85!

There was a time (in another life) that I thought if I could only make $10,000 per year, I'd really have it made! ;)

Can't help wondering what the numbers will look like in 2050, for someone just starting out now. I'm sure I won't be around to do the Math! :D

My first job paid $4.25 per hour, early 90's minimum wage, bagging groceries and stocking shelves at a small town grocery store.

The janitor at the store looks awfully familiar. Hey Chris, you ever lived in Missouri?
