Marketing that could backfire

BHenson was talking about something similar to this the other day....the van caught my eye because it was painted lke the A Team van....which is AWESOME! But then I started reading the side...while funny to me, I thought it would be off putting to many.

Although it makes you look and look twice at least, it would even get a laugh out of me, I just don't think its good for biz. I am no way a snob or get offended easily but I find it pretty tasteless and yes I would remember it, but I would never think of hiring them. I would purposely go with another contractor because of it.

I just figure if their classless enough to put that on their truck, its just not the kind of company or people I would want to work in my house. Thats how I would look at it at least.
I'd like a poll of like 2500 people in the range of 35-70 years old to really see what others think about it. I wonder if others would go with someone else

See that one isnt as bad.

I like the old roto rooter jingle and saying. "Away Goes Trouble Down The Drain". Thats a classic jingle that everyone knew the tune for decades

I'm with ya....and exactly what I tried to convey with the "Skidmarks on your roof" idea. I'd snicker but thats it.
 
The thing about sarcasim is that some will find it funny, but others will be offended. I have a really dry sence of humor, and I learned a valueable lesson last year about trying to be funny in advertising. From then on I've been too scared to use any slogans.
 
My nephews opened a plumbing business, aces plumbing, where you get s royal flush every time.

I laughed my azz off when I saw the van with the royal flush on the side.

I agree with jeff that hokie stuff won't make me hire them.
 
When I asked the question, I asked for Troy with Epic Solutions out of Tulsa. He was doing a home and garden show and wanted a way to catch the attention of the ppl walking through.

Although I agreed with most of you on the subject. I passed along what the opinions were from here and the ones of the ppl that called me on the subject. Troy went ahead with the marheting. Post-cards, banners, media, etc.

Last weekend after the show I called him and asked how it went. Now I really can't verfiy the numbers, but I believe he has no reason to lie to me but, he stated that out of the 3 days he booked a few driveway cleanings, 7 house washes and 4 roof cleanings. With a total of 63 firm leads with appointments already set up.

I asked what the reponse was on the skid-marks. He said that everyone he talked to got a kick out of it. No negitive remarks. But like I said I wasn't there and can't verfiy. Just going on his words.

What works for some will not work for others. I personally would not use the phrase skid-marks. But that's me
 
There's a company here with a guy on the crapper, pants around ankles, painted from about shoulders down under the windows so the driver and passenger complete the picture! Always wonder how the employees feel about it.
