Lots and Lots of bubblegum on Concrete

The only thing good about Spring Clean ups is Winter Gum it is much easier to get up, but first you need to have been doing the cleaning in the fall on the sidewalks. The old gum like in your photos is a tough clean.

Why would you go thru the trouble of pre-heating the gum? Just hit it with hot water from the wand and be done with it.

You will save no time by 2 stepping gum, there is still only 1 way to get it off and that's with a wand and HOT water..

... I wouldn't consider pre-treating gum in any way, waste of time IMO.

some chemical treatment on gum shadows AFTER washing may be necessary... and that's only when it is safe to do so. Even then, only regular cleaning will help 'reduce' the visual impact of shadows and staining.

Hey Steve, did anything ever come from that lead?

I thought that Ron was joking, he has been in the business a long time and seen a lot but have not heard him talk about using a scraper. I remember people posting about using a scraper years ago.

I would think that the concrete would dull or wear out the poly scraper.

Heating the gum, that is an idea I did not think of.

Maybe a heated scraper?

Maybe a heating element on the scraper so it will stay hot?

This sounds like a good invention for a job like this.

Maybe a weed burner with the flame on the back side of a scraper so the flame can heat the gum and scraper.

I guess you could have a piece of wood or metal to clean off the scraper as needed.

we just made a gum scraper and it worked fast just one scrap and the gum was gone all it is is a scraper with a small propane tank atached to it.

I need to do some searching, maybe there is a heated scraper out there?

I will do a search and see what I can find.

ok, we just made one and tried it on some super old gum outside the neighbor's house. It heats the gum and you can scrape if off effortlessly in about 3-4 seconds. Chris is making a video now. It's be up soon.

This should be good !!

Ok, Chris was talking on the phone so I beat him to it.

Why wouldn't something like this work? I don't even think you would need to scrape the blade, it all just burns off anyway. If the concrete was prewet I don't think it would even burn on the concrete like that.

Hey Steve, did anything ever come from that lead?

went up to see the guy last week... they are price shopping just now to get their budgets in order... but I'm still working on it!! ;)

I towed the trailer with me... it seemed to impress him! I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

... oh yeah, THANK YOU for passing this one on! If I get it, I definitely owe you one!!

looks as if from the videos, the propane scraper worked a little more efficiently and quicker.

I would be interested in seeing the difference in the propane scraper vs. choking off the flow of water allowing the burner to super heat it using around 2000psi

This is the method I use and its faster then using full pressure and all 8gpm. The best part is once the gun gets really hot you can open up the ball valve all the way and then the water coming out is a lot hotter then before and the gum really starts flying

hey chris.... what do you mean by 'choking off the flow'?

are you shutting off the ball valve, letting the water heat then opening valve?

I have a bypass back to my supply tank, don't think this would work in my situation... but I might be misunderstanding.

we have a steam valve that bypasses part of the flow

Homedepot sell a metal stainless scrapper for around 29 dollars. Sharpen the edge, they also have a poly scrapper on a pole that you can also use.

Steel is no good, it will leave rust marks long after your gone.

Call me again and again and again... i have some other tips/////

forget the scraper and put a steel/brass cup brush 1.25" on the end of your wand and youll be able to take off gum much easier that that and it does a better job because you can get in the pores of da crete.just like the gumblaster. will try to post some pics cant seem to find the ones i had on my old comp.
