Lots and Lots of bubblegum on Concrete

I just got home from looking at some more properties that have huge amounts of bubble gum and I am still wondering how to bid it because it will take several times longer on the gum than it will to clean the concrete. There are a few sidewalks that are hardly dirty, just lots of gum.

Here are some pictures of the gum and a picture of bird crap, lots of it that goes on for about 100'.

That one Photo looks like Pigeon Poop, if so Wear a MASK thats stuff will make you sick, Just ask me, Been There Done That. For GUM lots of Heat and by the looks of use lower Pressure, that Crete look old. Bid it for gum and that will take a bit more time.

I was told by another cleaner and my chem supplier that if you spray the gum the day before with d-lamoline, it will pop right off the next day when you hit it with some heat. Anyone ever tried this?

Sounds interesting Spencer. For a places like in these pics I would be willing to try anything. That's 'orange' cleaner right? I wonder what strength you can get it in? It seems like it wouldn't make it to the bottom of the gum but who knows, maybe it starts a reaction.

Lenny, if it makes a difference please report. Is that 55 drum straight lamoline? Is that an eco-friendly solvent?

Thanks for the tip.

Chris hence one of the reasons I think that the steamer machines are so valuable, that job would cost you a fraction of what it would to use a hot pressure washer.

As to how to bid it, you know how that goes, relationship with client, multiple cleaning contract vs one time or occasional cleaning, your cost and risk.

Some kind of pre chemical treatment would definitely make it more efficient.

I wonder what is the ingredients in www.gumbusters.com patented cleaning solution?

For a job like this, I was seriously thinking about one of those gum buster machines, just because I could have a helper out there in the daytime removing gum.

They have electrical outlets all around the place, if some did not work I could take a generator.

That is going to take a lot of time no matter how you do it.

I thought about pre-treating the gum but that place is very busy and I can't block the areas until the place is closed.

Still thinking of possible options, I have not done a place this big with a gum problem this bad, either not as bad for the same amount of concrete or the same amount of gum but a lot less concrete to clean.

Thanks.

I have seen many S/C like this, you need to get a good price for the first cleaning..

I think Ron was serious. you need to hold it at about a 45 angle and make sure it is sharp, and that your employees are not lazy. you can also try to soften it with a weed burner and then scraping it immediately. That can often speed the process on heavy deposits like that.

I thought that Ron was joking, he has been in the business a long time and seen a lot but have not heard him talk about using a scraper. I remember people posting about using a scraper years ago.

I would think that the concrete would dull or wear out the poly scraper.

Heating the gum, that is an idea I did not think of.

Maybe a heated scraper?

Maybe a heating element on the scraper so it will stay hot?

This sounds like a good invention for a job like this.

Maybe a weed burner with the flame on the back side of a scraper so the flame can heat the gum and scraper.

I guess you could have a piece of wood or metal to clean off the scraper as needed.
