lost 1000psi

Our skid is 5.2gom/3500psi.

Yesterday after installing a new pressure gauge I realized we are only getting 2500psi at the end of 200ft of hose.I also have been having pressure drops(pulsation/fast bypass) within the first few minutes of pulling the trigger on the gun. This usally happens about 6 or 8 times then stops.
I pulled all the check valves they are clean and not sticking. My thinking was there may be trash in them since we have been using a hydrant a lot lately and that could be causing the momentart pressure drops.
I also noticed the belts have about 1" of play in them while I was trying to trouble shoot things.
So my questions are these.

1.Could the loose belts be causing the loss of 1000psi?
2.Would loose belts cause the pulsations?
3.Could the unloader be going bad and causing the pulsations and the loss of pressure?

The belts are 8 yrs old and I'm sure it's time to replace them, but if I'm going to tear into that I would like to find the answer to the pulsation and pressure loss and do it all at once.

I had to replace an unloader last week for the very reason your talking about. The best choice to determine that is put a gauge before the unloader and see what the pump pressure is or remove the unloader and test it with the gauge further downstream. That will atleast eliminate one of the options. Another problem I had on a machine in the past was a tiny pin-hole on my supply hose causing it to suck air briefly intermittently.

I have a better replacement pump if you have to replace it.

Belts could be slipping...* years??????????WOW!!!!!!!!

I lost 1000psi on my Hotsy 3000psi 5.6gpm machine. Found out that it was rust (not scale) in the coils that was causing it. Had the dealer clean out the coil and back up to 3000psi.

K7 unloader?

2.Would loose belts cause the pulsations? Not usually

Start the machine, trigger the gun, then squeeze the bypass line with channel locks, pliers, etc. If the pressure comes up at all or if the bypass line blows off, the unloader's at fault.

It's a K1 unloader about 4yrs old.
I'll try the the channel locks and see what happens.

Ummmmmmmmm...............eewwwwwwwwwww.........lol

I went to get belts and no one in town had them.NAPA will have them here in the A.M. I haven't felt good today so I will make due on tomorrow mornings job with 2500psi.

Get v belts, not smooth. And buy 2 extra belts for each machine you have. You'll thank me one day even though I am not a Russ.

I double check my water feed side when my outpresure drops. Use a pressure water feed from a faucet to feed your pump. If your pressure output goes back up you have a suction side leak.

Is the k1 that smaller unloader thats good from 2 - 10 gpm. I had one and it didn't work well for me, seemed like it was giving a lot of resistance. I like the k7. When I've had belts slip it was a slow up and down in the pressure as they got hold and then slipped again.

Tom the K1 is smaller, but I have had less trouble out of it than I did the K7.

I installed new belts and tightened everything up today.I still can't get more than 2500psi.When I crimp the bypass hose off there is no increase in pressure and I'm still getting the quick pressure drops.I've checked and tighted alll hose clamps and made sure no fittings were cracked,as well as,replaced all o-rings in any connectors throught the system.

What do I trouble shoot next?
1.Unloader?
2.Pump?

When you say you pulled the check valves, you mean the ones in the pump head? The one thing I've seen most often is the o-rings around the valves get chingered up.

Could be bad check valve o rings or a torn high pressure packing.

:shocked2: I can't believe this POS pump only lasted 8yrs............LOL.

I guess we need to fingure which rebuild kit I need. It's an Interpump and I believe it's the same as a TS-2021.

Didn't Ron say earlier in the thread he was gonna send me a new pump:sarcastic:
