Looking to the future

na plain and simple complaining.. when someone try's to have a real conversation about it they are made to look like the fool with little snide remarks like " but thanks for your input.." or "call me when you sell your equip." or other such negative comments that doesnt really further the conversation at all... you are not interested in anybody's input unless its aligned with yours.

Ya thats it..

Great at least your man enough to admit it!

Talk to me in 15 years from now. until then keep up the good work...;)

I know "The Cleaner" and the type of work he does. He does the absolute best job he can on everything he does. He is very meticulous and does not cut corners. In my opinion this is how everyone should do there job. I feel he does not charge enough for the quality of work he does. But he has lowered his prices from time to time to stay competitive in our market. The problem we have here are the "blow and goes" that dont go the extra mile and dont take pride in what they do. They come in with inferior tool & equipment and do half assed poor quality work. They charge a fraction of what they should because of it. And now the price is what customers have come to expect. A lot are out of business faster than they came in because they don't budget and have the business mind set to budget insurance, licenses, chemicals, repairs and so on. This is not a hard business to start. Our local economy is poor, so more and more people are looking for that extra dollar and comming into the business. Here in Florida things are getting tuff. I know many that are having a hard time paying bills much less finding money for PW or other services. We are not complaining we are just stating the facts.

Dog & Big Chaz have stated maybe we need to find new nitches. #1 we dont have much wood around here. #2 most of us have expanded into things like roof cleaning or paver sealing but guess what the other 200 guys around here have too. We have a lot of retireies, X-military, government scammers, rednecks, and others that do this for a little extra cash on top what they get. I have seen guys clean a 2000 sq ft shingle roof for 150 bucks. They used a PW not chem. Do you think they told the homeowner that the now need to replace there roof in the next couple years? These are not complaints just some facts as to what we are dealing with.

Here is another thing we have to deal with. I have a quarterly cleaning for flatwork at a shopping center. They asked me to quote cleaning the store fronts, windows and awnings. They said no chems were to be used on the building. I quote prices for a no chem clean, doing the windows with a squegee and cleaning each awning with detergent and a brush. I did not get the work.

I show up to do the flatwork and a softwashing company is spraying chem all over the building to clean it. They sprayed the windows and awnings and that was the extent of the cleaning. At four a.m. the property manager will have no idea that chems were used. I can't say if they will be happy with the windows and awnings or not. It just really pisses me off when I quote work based on what the PM tells me they want done and someone else beats me out of it by doimg the work another way. I have no problems with soft washing or using chems. I would have done the work that way but the PM said no. How do you deal with people like that without becoming one of them?

We cleaned a trash chute at a hospital they said NO CAUSTIC So we used Sanatizing Biodegradable Non Harsh Solvents ( ie CAUSTIC) Get the idea... If they say they wont it cleaned with a rag thats what we use , they want pressure thats what we use ..... So whatever they want ..... We use whatever it takes to clean on the job ( just take the labels off )

I just dropped a rental truck I used over the weekend back at the Penske lot. A fleetwash company is out there doing the trucks. As soon as I pull into the lot they stop working. They wait until I leave to start back up. This is a large company that sells thier service by talking about reclaim and how they do the job correctly. I know the guy they took this account from. No reclaim going on that I could see. Just another example of less than ethical people screwing others out of business.

i think i see a trend. everyone wants to come up with standard pricing but no one wants to give up their pricing. its kinda hard to set standards until people start coming forward. being fairly new to the game how am i supposed to know what to charge for a driveway or a roof? when someone asks this question they are met with "every company is different" yeah we r all different but there are still standards. i think the only real pricing ive seen is on Russ's website which i kinda set my standards by(probably gonna steal some of his website ideas when i get my own;). some of us do lowball but i find myself a bit higher than most of the guys i see on here. but then there are some prices i see that just seem like highway robbery.how many times is someone gonna say "we need pricing standards in fl". well how about at the next big meet down here everyone has to fill out a survey on pricing and let someone who we all trust like a "Sun Brite" do the averages for us and then post them. after all it is regional right? and we can do the same thing in Arizona or Kentucky or wherever. im just kinda tired of hereing all the big ballers talking about the lowballers. in another post i just did, a guy is doing driveways for $25. and we scoff at him. maybe we should contact him and let him know what he could be doing to "HELP" the industry and not bring it down. any freakin ways......im out!

One of the things I do is I go to competitors web page and look at what they are advertising on there page and then determine my rates based on the averages I find seems to work for me.
