"Look dude, I suggest that I be the LAST person you call"

Hey Guys,

Just thought I'd share a funny little thing that happened to us today.

Eric got a call today from a guy wanting a quote for 27k worth of concrete cleaning. Lots of gum. Eric was busy but talks to the guy, gives a ball park quote (without being able to see it) and that was the end of it.

A few hours later, same voice calls back.

His words were "To be honest with you, I wanted to start up my own business and I chose pressure washing. I was the one who called you earlier." Eric tells him "Look dude, I better be the LAST person you call like this". He asks "Why, I've called tons of other companies to get their pricing just like I did to you". :hang2:

This guy is in our area so to all Houston guys....he may calling you if he hasn't already.

He claimed that he didn't want to be a hack and wanted to do everything the right way. Of course, calling your competition and getting their pricing and THEN calling BACK and telling on yourself does not start you out on the right foot.

Eric could have hung up on him but being the nice guy that he is, he talked to him a little longer and gave him a few suggestions. Hopefully he will take those suggestions and do the right thing. We always feel like it's better to try and educate than to turn our back and allow someone to become a hack.

We all see this time and time again but to the newbies: JUST BE HONEST!

Lead him to water....then hold him under.:idea2:

I have been called many times like this. I never give a price out over the phone any more. in the pass when I did I hardly got the job, and when I got the job it was twice as bad or twice as big as what they told me, I told a customer he wasnt honest about the size of the job and would cost double the amount He said after much complaining that I could do it. I had a feeling he wasnt going to pay me. So I passed and walk away. He couldnt belive that I would walk away.

Some guys do well at giving a price over the phone, I dont.

Must be the same guy calling me for equipment and prices....said he was coming by tomorrow but I will be doing a house wash....

I had a call like that today. Did a search on the number and found itnwas a janitorial company. Glad I gave them a high foot price.

This work is so easy, even a caveman can do it. It's like this everywhere. I saw $35 housewashes in craigslist yesterday.

It's spring time now, this is the time of the year all the hacks usually come out.

I think I've seen more pressure washers up for sale this year though than I have in a long time. Sad thing is the guys pay $13,000 for them and still expect to sell them with only 50 hours for $12,500.

That's OK by me. I need a 8gpm skid to put on a flatbed I am looking to pick up soon.
