I have a tow behind Genie 35/20 and it does a great job. Ileave it hooked up to the vehicle and move it as needed. Had a bucket truck too much expense tires, gas, ins., tags etc. Also made ruts in customers lawns.
 
I used to have a Bucket for several years and worked great. Got it from the Phone Company, so it was Fleet Maintained. But after several years, some of the hydraulics started leaking, and before the big bucks came into play, I sold it. I'm going to look again soon, since I signed on with 5 townhome developments with 300 plus homes in each which will require some sort of mechanical lift to reach over several peaks and valleys on third stories.
 
I had to change out the hydraulic pump that is pto driven and it was not that expensive compared to years ago.

So much competition has brought a lot of prices down on a lot of things.

My dad had to replace a hydraulic pump in the old 55' bucket truck we had when I was growing up and 20 years ago that was over $2000.00 just for the pump, not including labor.

Now most of the pumps are a lot less expensive and with so many companys out there making hoses, those are less expensive than years ago too.

Now if you have a company that really knows their stuff, they can rebuild a valve body controller for less than 1/3 of the price of buying a new one as long as it is not pitted or worn excessively.
 
We used a 41 ft bucket truck/van and a 61ft Biljax Tow behind. The biljax is the way to go. It can be unhitched and drive itself and has a 33 ft side reach. And it has air, water, and 110v to the bucket.

We keep all our pressure washing equipment in the truck bed. It includes 325 gallon water tank, 3500 hot Landa, and all the other misc. equipment we need.

I like the Tow behind setup so much I just sold the bucket truck to a tree trimmer in San Diego and am going to get another tow behind.

Before anyone says anything, these pictures were taken before we got the Landa and we were using a craftsman pos.

It was about 38k used with warranty and all options except hybrid. It even included a forklift option. For my main lift I would keep this one as is. For our secondary lift I will probably get a 35 or 45ft unit without the drive and set option since I seldom use it. If you are patient you can get the same thing I got for 32k or so and can get a 35ft without drive and set for less and 20k. I bought mine from National Lift Equipment. I will not hesitate to buy from them again, but I will not take a unit from Canada again because of the rust issues.

A 32 ft ladder costs about $300. Is it worth 100 times as much to have a lift? It takes me less than 60 seconds from putting the truck in park to being on the roof. No fussing with ladders, no tightening of the anus..... I think it's worth it.

I would not do this work without a lift truck. Most days I do no have to get a ladder out. Many times the pump will lift me to the ridge line and I can do the back side from the ridge if the roof is to steep to walk on.

Also works great for gutter cleaning. and house washing.
 
I bought (picture) this truck used in 1987. Ran water and electric lines up thru the boom when we changed out the hydraulic lines. We could reach 50 high.

Back then there were very few rental agency's to get lifts. Today you can rent almost anything you can dream of!:rolleyes:

We had projects that we were able to utilize it on for a few years. Then we were getting jobs that required much larger or smaller lifts than this bucket truck.

I thought of putting tanks and pumps on it but ended up going a different direction. There has been very few times that we wish we still had the old bucket truck. We had it for 13 years! Sold it 7 years ago.

Did you ever sell, or find the pictures?
 
Haven't sold----I need to get more aggressive with it. I'll try and attach a pic--I can't believe a Pwashing guy hasn't bought this. It has a flatbed which is a neg for almost any other biz in the world, except washing.

RIght now it has about a $600 problem--needs a brake booster. Not a big problem.


I'll take $11,000 for it if someone buys it before May 5!! Buy as is, or I can pay to get the booster fixed, and add that to the cost.

Any other pictures of the bed and sides and back Jon?

I am interested in a flatbed truck for this year and possibly that truck might work but it would need to be able to make the trip down here to South Texas reliably.

I do not have the money right now, it would be later this year but I will keep you in mind in case you still have the truck later on.

Thanks for the link, I had heard about them but not looked at their site.

They have a lot of auctions coming up and a lot of flatbed trucks and bucket trucks.

Has anyone ever been to one of their auctions?

I wonder if there are reserves (minimums) that they start the auctions at?

RBA is a no reserve auction and registration is free. you can also register to bid on line as well. you can inspect items before auction starts and find alot of great deals there. Good luck..
 
That sounds like a great auction to go to.

I think I will try to go to the auctions here in Texas and see if I can get a truck there.
