Let's talk about line jetting

Seems to be an ideal add on as I'm doing restaurants. Not much more equipment to buy and rates at about $50/drain around here. Would appreciate any info y'all have for discussion, but here's a list of starter questions:

Are any of you doing it and getting much response?

Seems like all I'd need would be a foot pedal, line jet hose, and jetting nozzles, is there more that I'm missing?

Seems simple: feed the hose through. What am I missing, what else is involved?

How did it affect your insurance?

How did it change licensing requirements in your state?

I'd like to hear some feedback on this as well. There's a company here and that's all they do. I can't remember the name but looks like a franchise or maybe a national company.

Sewer jetting should be done with the right equipment and knowledge of plumbing systems. The right equipment meaning sewer camera's to see what your clearing. You might have a sewer line collapse and not know it,your jetter line might go up a line you do not know exists and go blasting into another location right into the interior of another store. The right gpm and jetting nozzles(warthogs $800 plus) etc. Without the proper nozzles you can't cut roots or severe grease blockages. It's the same as PW'ing ,any hack can throw on a cheap jetting nozzle and have at it ,but they are going to run into trouble just jetting blindly without the proper equipment and proper knowledge of sewer and drain systems.

Most professional jetting companies get $150 or more per hour with a 2 hour minimum for smaller jetting jobs and way more than that for larger jobs.

One other thing with sewer jetting is that you are dealing with raw sewage ,that can splash back at you. If you are dealing with any type of sewage you should be inoculated for Tetanus and Hepatitis among other things and take proper safety precautions handling and cleaning hoses. Most responsible sewer
and drain companies require their employees to get inoculated.

Great info Jim, Thanks.

I called 10 or 12 plumbers here and talked to them about this last year and they told me that you have to have a plumber's license to do that and if a company is caught doing this without a license here in Texas, it is a $10,000 fine.

I found out that the person owning the equipment, operating the equipment, signs on the equipment, truck or trailer, etc... has to have that plumber's name on it or they will rat you out and call so you get caught.

I really wanted to get into it because it would not be too bad of work but nobody was willing to, a couple offered to buy my trailer but I declined.

That is here in Texas, your state might be different, they might let you do that kind of work on plumbing pipes without a plumber's license, I would check into it first before spending any money.
