Large Paver Cleaning Job

I will be looking at a job tomorrow to clean 100k sq.ft.+ of pavers, probably a lot more than that.

I am wondering for those that have done huge jobs, how do you clean up the sand afterwards? I am not sure if they could get a street sweeper on the area due to several factors so a street sweeper will probably not fit into the area so I need to find another way to clean up the sand.

How do you guys typically clean up all that sand when doing the big paver jobs?

Thanks.

Chris I don't have anything good to tell you, on smaller brick or paver jobs it seems like you end up pushing a sand berm around. If I had to guess who might know a good answer its Joe Swrest...

I am talking about when you are pressure washing the pavers and then cleaning up about 1 billion pieces of gum. There will be a lot of sand all over the place.

I was thinking about using a vacuum surface cleaner but I think that the suction will pull a ton of sand out of the joints, probably too much sand and then the pavers will wobble when you walk on them. hahahahaha

I was thinking about using a street sweeper to vacuum up the sand after the pressure washing is done.

Thanks for the info guys.

I haven't done a paver job that big, but anytime I do pavers I'll clean everything with the surface cleaner, then rinse. When you rinse just rinse to differant piles, then you can either wait for it to dry, then sweep up the sand, or get a normal shop vac and put the top on a 55gal barrel with a cart with wheels. That's such a large area so there may be better ways of doing it.

One of the jobs we did today was a pretty decent sized Brick Paver Driveway. It had tons of weeds growing out of the cracks. We ran the SC's over it first and then actually had to use turbo nozzles to eat up the rest of the weeds that the SC's couldn't get. We had a decent amount of dirt and sand but we normally just keep rinsing until 90% or more has been rinsed back into the cracks. Mother nature usually takes care of the rest of the loose sand.

Here is one we did about a year ago that was pretty big.

Hey Larry nice shorts.
or are you in the Truck staying cool.

Hey Chris--hmmmm thats an interesting question. Can the pavers support a street sweeper? Whats the basic dimensions of the area's that will be cleaned another words could a sweeper fit on the area. Also are the pavers on top of concrete?? You could go for broke and Powerwash the whole area and follow up with a rinse but I'm betting your going to end up with to much sand to push around. I would price that job out with the thought of having a street sweeper come in there after. Also when he's done I would also maybe when all is dry look to blow some of the sand left over back into some of the cracks.

I never did any super large amount of Paver cleaning but the larger ones I did that were a few thousand sq ft what a pain we had rinsing the sand. That took longer then Cleaning the pavers.

Great job on the pavers Shawn.

That job came out great Larry!

How long did it take to do the pavers?

Thanks.

The pavers will support a street sweeper but I talked to them about that and that I would leave it up to them to handle that part.

After talking to a couple friends, I think that if I do the Huge Job, I will go after the sweeper is done and use a leaf blower to get rid of what is left. Great ideas guys.

I will be putting in the bid in a day or so after I work out the details, it would be great if I got that Huge Job! hahahahaha

Thanks Chris. That one, If I can remember correctly took us about 3hrs. About 2hrs of it was actually rinsing. Once you start rinsing areas like that you really start wishing you had a 20gpm machine. We have also used the blower idea as mentioned. That also works really well.

Thanks Larry.

I am guessing that dealing with the sand when the job is done will probably take longer than the actual cleaning, kind of like rinsing large areas of concrete after pressure washing, the cleaning does not take too long but the rinsing can take a lot longer.

Thanks again.
