LAKE ZURICH — Fire caused by a buildup of grease on a broiler and adjacent wall forced the evacuation and closure Monday of the TGI Fridays restaurant at 676 S. Rand Road, fire officials said.
Firefighters reported to the restaurant at 11:04 a.m. responding to call of smoke coming from behind the broiler and visible smoke from the restaurant's roof. Firefighters opened the wall behind the broiler and discovered an active, concealed fire between the wall space, a fire spokesman said.
The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes and there was no immediate damage estimate. The kitchen and portions of the seating area were exposed to smoke.
The restaurant will be closed until repairs are made.
