Two-Alarm Fire Damages Poulsbo McDonald's

By Kitsap Sun Staff
December 5, 2006

A kitchen fire at the Poulsbo McDonald's restaurant on Viking Way late this afternoon caused smoke damage throughout the building, and is likely to shut the business down for several days.

But quick action by firefighters prevented much worse damage to the restaurant, said Jody Matson, spokeswoman for the Poulsbo Fire Department.

The blaze began at about 5 p.m. in a deep fat fryer. Employees said it appeared flames were spreading inside a wall and up a vent.

Everyone was evacuated from the building and employees called 911. No one was injured.

Firefighters arrived quickly and put out the blaze using a chemical retardant. Later investigation showed no indication of flames spreading inside the wall.

Fire damage was confined to the immediate area around the deep fat fryer, but smoke damage extended throughout much of the business and will take some days to clean up, officials said.

In addition to Poulsbo Fire Department, crews responded to the scene from Keyport, Bangor, Kingston, Suquamish, Silverdale and North Kitsap.
