kitchen exhaust school suggestions?

Hi, name is Pat and I have a small power wash business but not busy after Sept. I am wanting to get into cleaning exhaust hoods. I am hoping for suggestions on which schools I should look into for certification. Seems to be alot of different ones with a huge price difference. Wanting the best bang for my buck. Anyone that has attended any of the schools how was it and would you suggest it. Thanks for any responces,

Certification is nothing more than a piece of paper, don't waste your money on it. Spend that money instead, on certain tools like; a duct spinner, a magnetic scraper, and good marketing materials. Once you get started and decide KEC is a good fit for your business, and you can justify the expense, then get certified.

I do suggest educating yourself though; attend one of the schools (I believe Derby is your closest option, followed by the one in Nashville), read the manuals that are available, buy a copy of NFPA 96, read the boards (PWI, TGS, and TGP), and do a ride along if you can. Good luck!

Join IKECA and take their Certified Exhaust Cleaning Specialist certification test and if you pass (it is very difficult, and only the most knowledgeable and skilled greasers could pass it) you will be able to handle any kitchen exhaust system out there. You don't really need to go to a school to learn, just study the materials they give you before the test, and if you can make it through with a passing grade, you will be an instant kitchen exhaust cleaning specialist.

Thanks for the replys, I had worked for a company years ago doing kec but wasnt there very long. Im the sort of person that would benefit from classes and even though the certification is only paper it would look good on truck etc. So any schools that could be suggested would be great. I had been thinking about Delcos school in Fort Worth but it is a long haul.
