Kitchen Exhaust Certification

I'm curious as to how many of you have a kitchen exhaust certification.
Also if your certificted why couldn't you start you own kitchen exhaust certification school? Why couldn't you start your school if your not certified? ...why not just certifiy yourself? Who backs these certifications? What states require hood cleaners to be certified?. Being qualified does not mean you have to be certified. It seems to me some of the fees for certification are excessive. Please share your thoughts on this subject.

We have had many discusions on this topic over the year-many very heated-if you go up to the top menu "search" and type in that single word-you will get all of the related posts. And by the way I am focused on hoods and I am certified under 3 groups-IKECA-Ackland & PWNA.

Good Luck

Why did I think of that? ...thank you David...I'll check it out.

Mattia...I assume you speaking to me as "Jack of all trades and a master of nothing!" I realize some people are limited as to their specialty and there is nothing wrong with this...nevertheless we are a Commercial cleaning and Lawn service company. Specialzing in Resturant cleaning inside and out. The only thing we do not do at this time is exhaust hoods, which we plan to start in fall of 2007...Lord willing.
We have our Resturant cleaning dept, Lawn service dept and office cleaning dept. Each department has people working in them that specialize in their department only. Currently we have 5 people working and plan to hire two more this fall for the Resturant cleaning dept, and two in Jan 2008 for the office cleaning dept. I work all three departments when needed. The Lawn service is seasonal, currently I am working the lawn service department of
21 commercial accounts and plan to double the accounts next year (HUM...I may need some help) and I manage the other two departments. My sweet little bride takes care of the paperwork etc.

I am IKECA and Phil Ackland certified as well as NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist.

Hood cleaning as a add on, is like mixing water and oil. Not one single element is compatible. The crews work at night and have nothing in common with the other disciplines. A case in point some hood companies add on air duct cleaning, I can’t even see that working. Crew can’t transition, from one to the other because they tend to have grease on the bottom of their shoes, cloths and trucks. Thus one would have to have additional trucks to meet the need.

Hood cleaning is a different duck, not to say it can’t be done, but beware you will have problems trying to blend an all in one shop.
