Last night, while attempting to turn one of the pw off, the key would turn, but would not turn the machine off. It still works to turn it on, but not off. What could be causing this?

Theres a wire that ground the unit out thats not attached. Sorry i can tell you , I'm sure you choked it dead or use a screw driver on spark plug.
Maybe Russ or Scott can tell you. I would post the brand motor

On the right side there is a black wire that attaches to a lug that is on a small plastic block about half way up the side between the front cover and cover plates (just above the starter). Sounds like that fell off.
