Just Thinking Out Loud...(Again)

wouldn't guy "B" go to the other side of the island?

Tony, here in Oregon it's against the law to pump your own gas and we like it that way! The oil companies tried and tried to get the law changed, but gave up on trying to do so years ago.

They claimed that with self serve the price would go down. But that's poppycock. Drive across the Columbia River into Washington State (self serve) and the price is the same.

So while I'm getting a fill up I'm usually sitting in the comfort of my vechicle whilst posting on PWI. LOL!

Lol, yeah I know. At least I was prepared for it a little better in Oregon than I was in New Jersey where I just about popped the guy in the mouth when he snuck up behind me as I was pulling out the handle. When that happens in the other 48 states it means you're about to be car jacked!

It's about consumer choice. At one time full service was an option all over the country. I remember as a kid most stations had either full service or a section for full service and a section for self service.

Here's a little bit of economics for the class:

Up until the 70's full service, including in many cases tire inflation, oil check, window cleaning et al.

Stations started offering a few cents off for self service.

Customers began trying self service and realized there were other benefits to self service like the saving of TIME.

After a while gas stations removed the discount for self service, yet customers still chose self service because of the speed of the transaction.

Customers overwhelmingly chose self service eventually reducing full service to almost zero nationwide.

In my own research I've found that while filling up with gas at a self serve station I can read one to three of Ron's posts, then I'm on my way.

While sitting waiting for the attendant in Oregon I am able to read two of my own posts and one of John T.

If that isn't evidence that self service is much faster, I don't know what is!!!!! lol.

It's all about choice and the freedom to choose what we want and not what some career politician wants.

My truck is diesel, what gets me is the diesel pumps around here are in the middle of two gas pumps.I have to pull up and wait for someone to pump there gas, clean there windshield etc... before I can get my diesel.Just put the diesel pump in the corner of the parking lot already..

And some people worry about having enough money to get enough gas to get to work...
