Is anyone going on this bid at Nellis AFB in Nevada?

We're trying. Any experience at bidding this type of thing? Also, not so huge. Listed each hood in each kitchen separately.

Karen

Karen,

Yup I met your better half Steve Dzierzewski on Friday. He seems like a nice guy.

Nellis is a huge place. Lots of kitchens. Lots of work to be done.
The job walk took half the day!

Thanks,
Chris

PS Steve needs more business cards.

Anyone heard of "Aero Dyna-Kleen?"

I think between Steve and I we've got it covered.
It was definately worth bidding.

I don't know much about the current company doing the work.

Anyone heard of "Aero Dyna-Kleen?"
I sure haven't.

So, I called Nellis on Monday and was told they awarded the bid. I sent a request for written confirmation of the bidders and bid amounts 'cause the amount was so ridiculous I thought I heard wrong. I'll post when I get it in writing, but care to take a guess? I made them repeat it 3 times. It's the previous company's bid.

Nellis

Karen,

I can't wait to hear how much. I'm going to call today.

I got a fax about a week ago fron Nellis asking me to "verify" my prices. It said that there was "an extreme difference in the bids received and the current contract".

I was worried....thought maybe my bid was way too low!:D

Out of curiosity, and since I do a lot of government work, I was wondering what process you followed in doing you bid.
1. Did you follow your normal pricing schedule?
2. Did you ask for a copy of the last bid tabulation and of the awarded contract?
3. Did you ask for a copy of any past letters of deficiency that might have been sent out?
4. Did you include and additional cost for motel rooms and such, or did you figure that as a regular cost of doig business?
5. Did the previous contractor come on the walk through with you?

I am just curious, because I have found that all of these thigns can be helpful in preparing a gov. bid.

So Chris, did you get the number, and how long did it take you to get back up off the floor when you fell? They still haven't provided the bid abstract for me, and got very "testy" when I requested it.

What were the numbers-the rest of the free world would like to know.

So here goes, not using names, the six bidders:
6. 90,630
5. 78,450
4. 51,350
3. 38,240
2. 38,042
and the winner, who's coming from over 300 mi away:
1. 12,990
So what's wrong with this picture?

and the low bidder builds the Space Shuttle! I would look at the middle mark and go up one, but sure as hell not the bottom feeder.

Hi Karen,

Tough break guys, you wins some and some you just shakes your head. Did I read that right, the current company is the low bidder again? Aero Dyna-Kleen? They sound like an al-ky-da group to me. There's a $78,000 spread, the GAO should question that. Based on the frequency given, they will be doing 134 jobs at the rate of $96.94 each, minus travel time. Does that make sense? I wonder if they have a dedicated employee in AZ for that job.

Will they be able to use box cutter scrapers?

Karen,

I got the Nellis fax yesterday an am still on the floor.

$12,990.00???????????????????????????????????????

That's like $1000.00 per month.

That's nuts. I wish I would have known the number they were looking at. It would have saved me 2 tanks of gas and a day of my life.

Scott,

I will answer your questions now. It took me awhile to figure out why my browser would not take me to the board.

1. No I bid it higher taking into consideration the distance involved and the potenital red tape involved in getting into and out of each building monthly not to mention what it'll take to get the fire Dept out there to inspect when we are done with each site. The big question was does the Fire Dept come and inspect right when you call them or do they take their time??????

2. I did not ask for that. Was not aware I could ask for stuff like that.

3. Same as #2 above.

4. I figured that into the cost of the job. Since we were coming from LA, those costs were a consideration.

5. Nope

Would you beleive I was not the highest bidder?

Heck, our office is like 20 minutes away, and we priced based on their timetable (usually wrapping up by 11 pm) so we could still do our regular jobs afterwards. So how am I not the lowest? I don't see how 12,990 covers the costs. If someone can work that cheap and still make money, why travel over 300 mi to do it?

I would be curous to know what the real deal is. Since it is government, are there some kitchens that do not really need to be cleaned, or are used minimally that take no time?
Is the contractor just an idiot?
Is there something else at the location that the contractor does that makes up for the parts of the contract that is done at a loss, such as, airplane washing, or vehicle washing, that they actually do not bother to bid because it is below the amount that is required to be bid out?

And just out of curiosity, did anyone want to protest he bid for being out of line? I think that I would just to cause a closer look a the bid.
