Intermittant Burner Operation

I have Delco (Elite) vertical burner. Lately the burner comes on, operates until I get steam. I then open the soap nozzles and wait until I get cold water. Then the soap nozzle is closed and the burner fires. I get hot water and the cycle repeats until I am done cleaning. I have replaced the pressure switch and the hi-limit switch. I still have the problem. Any suggestions?

It sounds like you have something that you have a restriction in the coil. Have you delimed it recently? That would be my first guess.

Define recently. I have had the machine about 10 years and have not delimed it. The pressure is good, goes to 3,000 PSI. I do not cool the machine down, just shut off the burner and let the engine run to charge the battery. When I am done w/clean up, the engine is shut down. There were posts which said cooling the coil down leads to deposits in the coil.

Hello Douglas,
Is your machine a Hotsy with the Delco Burner? I have a Hotsy 3000psi, 5.6gpm hot water machine and had a similar problem. If it is a Hotsy I might know what the problem is. Is there a control panel where you turn on the burner (switch) and an adjustment knob for the temperature? If so, I might know what it is. Let me know more about it or post a picture.

No, it is a Delco (Elite) and the temperature is not adjustable. My second machine has an adjustable temp control. That was more trouble than it was worth. I installed a fixed temperture hi-limit switch.

This was a trick question. My burner did fire intermittantly. I had changed the hi-limit temp switch and the pressure switch several times. I finally called some outfit in Texas and asked their opinion. I was told to change the unloader. I did and that fixed the problem. I guess no one else has had that particular problem.. Thanks someone in Texas.
