In search of hot water pressure washer

Hey Guys,

I have read the forum for the past two days. Very useful threads and info.
I am looking to purchase a hot water pressure washer for sidewalks, walkways, store fronts, concrete, gum removal, parking lots and covered garages.
At the beginning I had one budget in mind for direct drive unit, but I changed my mind to a belt drive one.
We mainly do power sweeping and not that much of pressure cleaning but I feel that its time to upgrade our old cold water pressure washer with something more serious. I am not looking for a whole trailer/rig, but rather a mobile unit on wheels or skid.
I ran across many brands, talked already to a few sales reps and the more I read the more I am getting confused what would be the best buy :).
My budget is around $4500 and I am looking at PW of at least 3500PSI, 4GPM, belt drive. I also would like to buy a decent flat surface cleaner and a package of good chemicals.
I spoke to northerntool, but for that price they only have a direct drive Northstar.
link: my first choice before to change my mind on direct/belt drive
other options in mind:
link1
link2
link3
and etc..
Any advice would be highly appreciated! I need to place the order ASAP.

Regards,

D.

I would not recommend Northstar (northern) products. I have bought a few and they were all crap. Stay away from them. the other's are good.

Any suggestions on a good and inexpensive flat surface cleaners?
Which one of the above three units would you recommend?
For some reason the third one shows $3995, but when I add it to the cart it shows $5646 :(..
Whats the best chemical you guys use for gum removal?

Thanks again,

D.

Stay away from Northern!!!! You can buy a whole trailer unit (used) for around $4500.00 very soon.

Look, 4gpm ain't gonna get it, 5gpm or higher is what you want, I know it doesn't sound like a big difference but it is!!! Stay away from direct drive!!!

Keep your eye on craigs list and ebay from Oct-Jan, guys who thought pressure washing looks like a easy way to make money, will be going out of business and you can buy the equipment for less than 1/2 price.

What is Power Sweeping???

I will soon be looking to upgrade my equipment. Thats exactly what I'm counting on Guy! Just because you are a good laborer and can get the job done doesn't mean you know a thing about getting and keeping good customers!!

Before anyone else jumps your a** about it, make sure you go to your control panel and add a signature line, like you see everyone else has. That way we can contact you personally and offer help.

I would suggest Hydro Tek. Or Paul over at Enviorspec has some great equipment and affordable pricing.

Fox, brother don't take this the wrong way, but its obvious you know nothing about Pressure Washing. If you want some good solid advice here it is. Get on every pressure washing bb you can find, read and study about Pressure Washing for at least 3 or 4 months before you pull the trigger. Hook up with a local Professional Pressure Washer and ask if you can do some labor for learning. You can't swing a dead cat in Fla. without hitting a Pressure Washer:sarcastic:

To answer your question about gum, there is no chem. for gum, it takes heat and proper tip.

There are no chemicals to remove gum, hot water will do that.

Stay away from Northern Tool machines, they are not commercial quality and from what I hear, not very reliable.

Minimum 5 to 5.5gpm and you can do most everything with only 3000psi.

There are many reputable brands out there but your budget of $4500 might not get you a good hot water skid, let alone trailer, hose, hose reels, guns, wands, surface cleaner, etc...

If you wait a little bit longer, there will be a lot of used machines flooding the market like most years.

Call the guys that sell and work on the equipment, chances are they might have a used skid or know of one for sale.

Surface cleaners, for the 5 to 5.5gpm the Classic by Whisper Wash is a great surface cleaner, don't get the ones they sell at Northern Tool, they are not commercial grade, unless you love to return things, get frustrated waiting for stuff to get repaired and complaining about things since you did not buy commercial grade equipment. hahahahahahaha

I hear that the 18" or 19" yellow cover surface cleaner that is made by either B.E. or Whirl A Way is also a good surface cleaner, I have not owned one but know of some guys that have.

We work in South Florida: Miami-Dade, Broward, West Palm counties.
I am not a big fan of used equipment and we need to upgrade our old PW equipment as soon as possible, so we don't really have the time to wait for a good deals on ebay or craigslist. Thanks for your advice, it seems I am leaning towards to this one: link
Still looking for a decent flat surface cleaner.

I am very happy with the Whisper Wash product in the surface cleaner line. I have a Big Guy- 28# ( alot on here that do flat work use them) You may not need one that big......check out the Whisper Wash Classic...( I am thinking of getting one of those also for smaller jobs)
I purchased mine from Pressure Tek....Bob seemed to have the best price on the Big Guy and they are very easy to deal with. www.pressuretek.com
Hope this helps!!!
