In memory of one of our own Ted Watson

Wow, he called me about 2 weeks or so ago and we talked for a long time, he was a great guy.

Prayers sent to the family.
 
I too knew Ted Watson from the Bulletin Boards and anytime it is someone you know it hits home. Knowing it was someone from our industry hits home especially realizing it probably could have been any one of us at one point in time. When I was younger I used to think "won't happen to me" and now that I am older I still say "it won't happen to me!" Truth is, as previously mentioned, that your life can change in a blink and it can affect those around us. For Ted I am sure it will affect those close to him dearly. I think we should all let it affect us as well in a professional way. As we go about our day working and we find ourselves in "not-so-safe" situation we should immediately think of Ted and do what is best for ourselves and our families in a safe manner. Very sad to hear of a peer passing away but I hope that when I am faced with a safety situation I will think of Ted Watson and his family and that will be how I thank and honor him moving forward. Rest in Peace and Godspeed Ted!!!

Sounds like his kids are really shook up and want to gather themselves and have the service after the new year.
 
Just so you guys know how quickly life can be gone I will relay the story told by Ted's roommate:

Ted and his helper were on top of a short garage using a ladder on top of the garage to reach up to the next level of the house.

The roof was slippery and mossy. The ladder slipped and Ted's helper caught him. They laughed and joked about what a close call it was.

They went back at it again a few minutes later. The ladder slipped again the same way. This time Ted fell head first 15 feet to the concrete.

He never regained consciousness. The Emergency crews started his heart back after 15 minutes. They took him to the hospital and kept his body alive till his kids could visit. As per his living will he was taken off life support.

This happened in seconds.

We are in a dangerous profession. Death is only seconds away from any of us.

That is why it is important to do whatever good we can while we are here. Like Ted.

He was very instrumental in the success of the UAMCC. He was also very helpful to any contractor who asked for help.

But he didn't have time for BS artists and those who would take advantage of others.

I am glad to have been his friend and glad to have learned from him.
