I had to cancel my vacation due to being so far backed up with work. I'll take my wife to Maui or someplace nice next month to make up for it though.

We are back. I am currently having trouble uploading photos to but we took hundreds.

Started with a 5 day safari in Kruger National Park in which we saw elephants, lions, white rhinos, giraffes, baboons, etc.... We even saw a pangolin, which is a heavily armored ant eater. The guide looked like a fat kid in the candy store when we spotted it. Although not rare, he has only seen it twice in the 12 years he has been a guide. Apparently they are difficult to find.

After leaving Kruger we flew to next flew Victoria where the guys went white water rafting on the Zambezi River while the girls did had tea at some old hotel and then went on a helicopter ride. I have rafted in several other places, and this was by far the best. The next day before we left we went to the Devil's Pool overlooking the falls. We all jumped in, which is contrary to any innate instict of self preservation. You want me to jump into the water, and swim to the edge of a 300 plus foot drop? It was amazing. If you have time, check out the various videos of the Devil's Pool on youtube.

We then flew to Capetown and spend a day and a half there. Got to see the town from Table Top Mountain, what an amazing view. Also got to see the sunset on the Atlantic Ocean. I lived on the east coast of Virginia for 10 years and saw plenty of sunrises on the Atlantic, so it was pretty interesting. In the morning we took a boat to a shark cage diving expedition. We did get to see a shark take down a seal who was swimming alone. Unfortunately I only saw one shark while in the cage as the water was not clear. From topside you could see more and we did get several photos of sharks swimming around our boat.

We then rented a car and drove for the next couple of days touring South Africa. I cannot remember the town names, but we did get to see Cape of Good Hope which was originally thought to be the southern most point of Africa. They were wrong, so not to do anything half measure we drove to the actual southern most point, Cape Agulhas. There we were able to get in the water at two different points 15 feet away from each other and be in two different oceans.

The driving on the left side was not difficult. Two of us did the majority of the driving. I left my lunch at several places because of my buddies driving. There is a photo showing the beautiful coast with aqua blue water, and me hurling into a plastic bag. Apparently I get motion sickness. My buddy would stab at the brakes instead of pressing them. Stab, stab, stab. After that, I volunteered to drive as much as possible.

At one point we stopped at an Ostridge farm. We were able to ride some ostridges. It was a blast.

We then stayed at a vineyard in Franschhoek called Le Petit Ferme, which I believe translates to The Farm of Pettitte or "Andy Pettitte's farm." Okay, so it actually means "The small farm." Either way, we woke up and did a tour of the vinyard and cellar. It was impressive. My wife and I have gotten into making homebrew wine and after seeing the Vineyard I think we need to step up our production.

Fortunately for the three of us who wanted to taste wines, my buddy does not like wine so he volunteered to drive while we hit several tastings at vineyard on our way back to Capetown. If we had driven straight through, it would have only taken an hour but we stopped at several vineyards and other tourist stops.

Winding down in Capetown for two days we got to go to Robben Island (an island prison where many political prisoners were held.) Nelson Mandela was a prisoner there for 17 years. After the tour we went back to the mainland and saw the different tourist shops until we left.

From the time we landed over there, we did not sleep in past 6 at the latest (often times we got up earlier.) The days were long and we were on the go almost the whole time. For a vacation I was pretty beat up by the time we left, but it was a blast. We arrived home yesterday around noon, and went to a friends house to make sausage. (Insert innappropriate joke here) There were several people there and it was a nice way to make sure we did not take a nap which would have turned into a full on sleep. Had we decided to watch TV on the couch both my wife and I would have been dead asleep within minutes. It was also nice nice because we got to eat there and brought home a bunch of sausage. I think my wife and I were home and asleep by 8.

Now time to hit up all the people I gave estimates to right before I left. Hitting the ground running.
