Here's a starting point:
Exodus 21:18 “If people quarrel and one person hits another with a stone or with their fist[d] and the victim does not die but is confined to bed, 19 the one who struck the blow will not be held liable if the other can get up and walk around outside with a staff; however, the guilty party must pay the injured person for any loss of time and see that the victim is completely healed.
See, this is where our system of justice has become perverted. In our system the ACT is judged independently of the results. This is in stark contrast to biblical justice. We have taken the providence of God out of the equation and have determined to produce justice on our own.
God knows the hearts of each of us. Do any of us believers think for one minute that he can't easily manipulate results based on the condition of a person's heart?
For example, one man hits another. God knows the man's evil heart will only result in further destruction. The man dies. The guilty party is put to death. Problem solved.
On the other hand one man hits another. God knows the man's heart was motivated by temporary evil that took over his heart. God assures no permanent harm comes to the victim, thus assuring that the aggressor is not put to death.
We, on the other hand, seek to make both equal, and destroy the entire concept of justice! We water it down and put the first aggressor on probation if he has a good lawyer and put the second in prison for 5 years for aggravated assault if he has a bad lawyer. We have destroyed justice.
Before anyone wants to dispute whether God intervenes in situations like these, I'd offer the following verse:
Exodus 21:12 “Anyone who strikes a person with a fatal blow is to be put to death. 13 However, if it is not done intentionally, but God lets it happen, they are to flee to a place I will designate. 14 But if anyone schemes and kills someone deliberately, that person is to be taken from my altar and put to death.
