I Love it!
Though I know NOTHING about exhaust cleaning, I feel a "kinship" to you greasers.

Like us roof cleaners, you almost have to invent some stuff you need.

The spinning action needs to be a bit better IMHO, because as you stick it up an exhaust fan, head pressure will decrease, possibly slowing down the spinning action.

The question is, WHAT makes it spin, pressure, flow, viscosity ?

Once we determine what is the primary factor in making it spin, we can try and enhance it's action by concentrating on supplying what it needs ?

How about this ?

How about a simple flexible hose with holes in it like a garden sprinkler hose.

You could have several various lengths of it to "fit" into different length ducts ?

Simply first measure the length of the duct, and stick the hose in it, and spin it around ?

One could even put a ball bearing pressure swivel on it, and turn the GD thing by hand ?

Or, just use bursts of Pressure to make the hose "jump around" in the duct, irrigating all in it;s path ?

Just thinking, and IF I sound stupid, I am not.

I am ignorant about what you greasers really do though, and just trying to help ?

Chris...we start at the top and drop the spinner down the duct ;)

I actually have a guy building something like what you are talking about though. It would be really helpful in the winter when going on the roof is out of the question in snow and ice...I'm sure I'll be posting once I've tried it out and it's working.

IMHO, you need to look at what the water jet guys are doing ?

They run water jets of high pressure down pipes with rotating nozzles.

I know, I know, pressure will blow ducts apart.

But, instead of pressure, we can adapt them to use chemicals, maybe even long clinging foam ?

First, we gotta make em spin, looks like we need pressure to do that.

BUT, we can bleed off the spinning pressure by using big ass nozzles maybe ?

I can picture the device in my mind, it needs to spin, and shoot from the sides only, right ?

This way, we can fish it up and down the duct while the cheap restaurant owner watches, and apply foam

This bastard spins, and discharges his pressure out the sides as he rotates!

Just hook him up, send him down the duct, and watch the grease come off.

If ya can't use pressure, use foam or chemicals.

HOW much pressure can be used ?

If we can't use pressure, we need to see how good these will spin at various pressure settings ?

So what if the ONLY spin 200 rpm at 200 psi, and spin 2000 at 5000 PSI ?

All we need em to do IS spin to apply chemicals.

There are pumps capable of applying sodium hydroxide at 750 PSI or more even.

Hey, I DEMAND "free" admission to TGP for my "idea's", LOL
 
The water jet guys are dealing with pipes that are really close to those nozzles, that's why the duct spinner needs to be bigger... With my duct spinner, you can basically make it any size that you need. For instance, I just sent it down an 8 inch McDonald's duct the other night and it freakin ripped the grease apart...on bigger ducts, it would need to be a little bit bigger to get closer to the walls. Make sense?

Thanks for the suggestions though, you've actually given me a new idea...hmmmm...back to the lab :D
