I Phone or Droid? AT&T or Sprint or Verizon or T-Mobile?

After seeing some really cool features and apps at the Great Florida event, I am ready to get a smart phone.

I looked at Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile and the phones are very similar and plans are close also.

Verizon and AT&T rates are about double the T-Mobile and Sprint plans.

AT&T and I think that Verizon has the Droid and I Phones and I think that Sprint and T-Mobile only has the Droid type phones.

I really like the cube or square deivice for using credit cards out in the field but I don't remember if that is only for the I Phones or if they will work for the other brands of smart phones.

It looks like AT&T has the biggest coverage areas out there so that is a good idea but there have only been a few times where I have been in an area where I did not have coverage with T-Mobile so I am not sure, everyone out there wants a 2-year contract. It will cost about the same to get the I Phone or Droid wherever I decide to get it, just the plans are almost double at AT&T, about $145 where T-Mobile is about $79.

I have heard a lot of bad things about Verizon and AT&T but with the plans about the same price, I would probably pick AT&T.

The salesman at AT&T told me that most of the better apps are made for both the I Phones and droids but the droids have a lot more apps out there as people can make their own apps and get them out to people and share or sell them where Apple has to approve the apps first.

From those of you who have the smart phones, what do you have and why?

Thanks.

I think the cube works with android and apple devices.
I use Verizon. I think Ron has a phone on both. In my area, Verizon rocks, and I am only out of service when I am in the mountains camping. ATT does not have the same reputation. Your area may be different.
I love my Droid Incredible. I have had it for over a year and have not yet seen a phone that compares to it. As with all things, there are advantages and disadvantages to everything. I prefer the android phones, though.

I am a programmer/web development dude by trade, and as huge into PC(more like droid platform) as I am because of it's customization and maneuverability, I have Verizon Iphone4.

That said here is why: PC,Droid, anything else open source has its perks for those in development because it is a very malleable technology, meaning you have alot of room to play with new ideas and aid in growth.

Apple develops products that are made to work with the applications perfectly, that is the biggest advantage they have over any other current platform. They censor what is allowed into app stores for instance, with one criteria being that it works beautifully with their hardware. This particular idea is a great thing to consider when thinking about things from a business stand point.

I love customization and programs that do quirky things, but that is business all its own.

When it comes to business contact, and the importance of reliability, I want something that is extremely stable, and for me that made the choice of Iphone very easy.

As far as SP's Verizon has always been solid for me, worldwide. So there you have it.

Droid is the only way to go in this situation. The Iphone has a big reputation for being amazing at everything, but if you play with it enough you find out it truly isn't any better than most droid phones. Iphones really work best for current Apple users, and people that aren't using them for business purposes (Angry birds). My sister-in-law has an Iphone and loves it, but she has always been an Apple person, and knows how to deal with Apple's programming issues. I have had a couple of droid phones and they work incredibly for me. Since I use mine mostly for business, I don't see the need to have 5 million useless apps to play with during the day. As far as the network goes, I have always chosen Verizon. Yes they are expensive, but their coverage is far superior in most areas other than very rural. And even then, you can get get at least one bar to come up so a txt will go through. Hope this helps.

Thanks Scott.

I have had my Iphone for a few years now and it's awesome with the ATT service.

I have Sprint. Have had them for about 7 years now, customer service is very good and I have never had problems with reception/coverage unless I am in some real remote spot. I have a Blackberry(curve) and an Android (epic). For pure communicating with friends, family, and CUSTOMERS, to me nothing beats a blackberry. So easy to use, texting, emailing, phone calls etc. The Epic I use for pictures, videos, calculator, FB, Tweetdeck, tapatalk, and a few other non business apps. I have never really found any android apps that I can use for business, not saying there arent any, I'm just not aware of them. My daughter has one page on the Epic for her for all her games she has downloaded.

I will say this, everytime I am around Ron and see him using his Iphone for business, I want to run and get an Iphone. I plan to switch to Iphone soon as I will be getting an Ipad3 when they come out.

We use the iPhone company wide and I like its versatility but as Ron said AT&T coverage isn't the best. We are in a big market and you would think it would be great but there are pockets where you can't get coverage. We use the platform for accessing our company database, customer records, schedules, invoices and all. For applications it is really powerful. The android is good and a bit more secure than the iPhone. The security issues are tightening up though and haven't been an issue for us.

Verizon has the best coverage bar none. Customer service is above average. I really like my iPhone, way smarter than I am for sure. Everyone that I've talked to that isn't a Verizon customer says they're carriers suck.

Verizon maybe the big dawg in NC,but no one I know who is with them in south Ga likes them. We are with Alletl and all have andriod phones (HTC Desire) they are a virtual equal to the iphone.I just saw the new MilestoneX the other day and wish I was due for an upgrade so I could have the larger screen, but I have zero complanits with my Desire or Alltel.

I've had an iPhone 3 with ATT for about 2 years and I don't own a Mac. In some areas, ATT coverage sucks, in others, it's great - I think partly due to the fact that Cingular had good coverage and the "old" ATT didn't. ATT is trying to buy T-Mobile, which will give us all better coverage. I've had many "smart" phones when I was with Sprint and ATT. By far, the iPhone wins - for me, in my area. I really like the fact that I can operate it with one hand and that I can surf and talk at the same time. (You can't do that with Verizon, btw.)

ATT offers the iPhone 3 for $50 with a 2 yr contract. As for data plans, if you regularly have access to wifi hot spots, you can go with the less expensive plan. We have 2 iPhones, a Droid and another "smart" phone. All have data plans and we have family unlimited texting. (2 teenagers) Our bill runs about $200 per month.

We use iPhones. I got a 3G when it first came out and was hooked. The droids really got my attention with the "iDon't" ad campaign, but it didn't stick long enough. Once I jailbroke my iphone I found that it does just about anything a droid does except for the near perfect navigation. I've been with att since it was US Cellular and I've never felt like I had a problem with the network.
I am absolutely hooked on the talk, text, surf, tether all at the same time feature! That may sound like a small deal, but I can be talking to a crew member while looking at their gps location and looking up a repair/supply shop in maps on their route, then call said shop, merge the call with crew and all the while I'm video chatting with my wife on my tethered laptop! I can also be on the phone with a customer and pull up their website to help me remember more about them or send them an email of a picture I took while they are on the phone... I could go on and on about how often I use the combined features!
It does cost around $300 a month though...

Nick nailed it ... I've had Verizon forever, a little more expensive but the reliability makes it worth it ... iphone is amazing, get one, you'll love it
