The test spots look great Ron!

So what worked?

Linda the acid was the winner. Hf hate to say it because guys will run down and grab this stuff and think they can just spray it without proper protection.

Does that mean I get an Ipad2? I think I was the first...

HF is some serious business. It attacks calcium which is what our bones are made of and our body needs to live. Exposure can be fatal!!! Kids, don't do this at home... :)

Way to go Ron and crew! I'll take an IPad if you have any leftover.

It appears to be a mineral deposit. I would think an acid based product would work...maybe a little HF.

Nuh uh.....:p

George, not to minimize the danger of HF in any way, but high concentrations (49% - 70%) is fatal. The finished product, aluminum brightener, is usually 10% - 15% max, which can still be quite painful and dangerous, but not the threat that the raw material can be. When I make aluminum brightener, I'm clad head to toe in rubber, goggles, and a respirator. It is some ugly stuff straight.

Just don't get it on ya...

Russ how does the sodium bifluoride stuff compare to hf? Does it 'release' hf when applied? Is it like 'buffered' acid and is it dangerous? Klenstone and safe restore have fluoride salts I think thats sodium bifluoride.
