How long until you were 'successful'?

Steven,
Your second questions are simple for me to answer.
How long till we felt we were sucessful? Again for us. Three years till getting an organization behind us. I look around at the folks who work their butts off daily. Many hrs. and never enough money. That is not sucess. They see us roll into the vendors store with all the equipment and chems to make us grow. One contractor bought his first Mi-T-M this morning. Using SW cleaning products. He is going to compete with us? That is sucess for us. LOL
As far as feeling our business is secure? NEVER! When you feel you are the man, someone else will smash you. Never feel you are the only guy in town. Just as you started, someone else is doing the same right now. Monetarily we have good times and bad. Save for the bad and you will be OK. I hope this helps. Thank You.

I have always been doing well.. But I learned how to sale myself along time ago.. You have got to sale yourself in the service industry.. If people like you they will do business with you ... I have been doing this so long that most of my customers call me by my first name.. I really started making money about 6 years ago when I broke free from working as an independent contractor for other companies.. Remember in the service business you can make as much as you want , you just got to be willing to work hard.. I am still not where I want to be and I am alright with that , it makes me strive to work harder everyday..

Success , no matter what the definition, is the culmination of hard work coupled with quality service. I am still pounding the pavement and going door-to-door even though we do pretty good for a relatively new company. Quality will always win over shotty work, because the hacks and lowballers won't be in business long enough to establish themselves. There are not many guys who get into this biz with the long term plan in their mind. they are usually out for crack money or beer money, and are gone like the wind after a short time. Scrappy has a very good head for business to be as young as he is. but, he has done his due diligence and listens very well. In ten years, when he is 29, Scrappy will be THE PW COMPANY in his area, I guarantee it as long as he continues to work hard. Hear that Scrap, I'm seeing quarter mil years ahead for ya.

I'd feel like a big success if I won the $85 million Powerball this week.:D

I feel that I am a success, but not yet successful and I am not sure if i will ever fit my description of that, I am just not sure of it. I hear what Fife & Ash say. I now really like not having to do the actual labor and I always want to reach a higher goal.

I am proud of what I have accomplished now. I am 46 I wish I started this biz in 1990 instead of 2000. Until 2000 I had problems, I wish I grew up faster ,from 1995 to 2000 I really wasted my life. But those times I think gave me the push to go for it and make something out of my life & JL Pressure Washing, it was either do it or dont and just work for someone and possibly be stuck in my old ways. My success is I now have a pretty nice life and my business is helping me afford that life, its not really the money which is better than I ever made, but the proud feeling I have owning a fairly successful business and having nice stable life. Its pretty cool feeling for me.

Now to be considered a success in my business, it took a few years to feel I was truly going in the right direction, its when I started making a name for my biz, repeat customers, companies that truly believed in my company. Steve, it takes time to be a success in this biz and a lot of hard work, its something you really have to work at and wonder if you will ever get there. I say a few years in a row of good growth is a good place to start, to work towards being successful.

Powerball, Powerball, Powerball;)
