I agree everything else is just a means to that end.

Speaking from the residential side of the biz,I'm glad I've tracked my marketing for the past year and a half.Now I can confidently start off 08 without wasting thousands.I'll put the extra in marketing that works.The first rule of making money is not to waste any.08 will be concentrated on getting more commercial.I'll just pull the trigger from time to time on the resi marketing thats planned for the year.
 
Marketing Mix

I would say 120%... the concept of services marketing compared to product marketing is more involved. The general consensus is that product marketing is based upon the 4 P's: Price, Product, Place, Promotion - however, due to the generally intangible nature of the service industry there are 3 more elements: People, Physical Evidence, Process.

I did learn something at University!!

With a constantly changing business environment we are always reacting to internal and external influences, we want to find a more effective, efficient way of conducting business and we want to make more profits. To achieve this we will always be tweaking our 'marketing mix' or marketing activities to some extent.

How do you feel about doing work for free as a type of marketing??? There is a Church right down the road from me with a lot of congragation that attends every week and I know they can tell that the roof is very bad. So i was thinking about going to talk to the Priest and ask him if i could clean the church for free or maybe putting an add in there weekly flyer.... what do you thing good idea or bad idea??

Offer to do it for FREE, in exchange for credit in the church pub/flier and advertise that you will donate a percentage from each job to the church. That may get you a few jobs.

Ron what are photo proposals? Do you take pics of dirty store fronts/ concrete and incorporate them into a marketing piece?
 
marketing can be what ever you want it to be. word of mouth is great because the quality of your work shines through. i use door hangers, poly signs, yellow pages, ect. everytime i speak to someone they may be a potential customer. i voted 120% because even if i'm note spending money on it. i'm still out there promoting the biz. a job well done is what keeps them coming back and bringing their friends.
