Hot Water Heater

Ok I know some of you may think this is a crazy question.
Have any of you built your own heaters? I know that I can buy one in the $800-1400. dollar range. Think I can buy the componets and builder a better unit for a similar cost.

I hear that vertical burners seem to have less problems.

What fuel do you guys mostly burn diesel or propane? I kind of lean towards propane because it is cleaner burning and readily available. I am also aware of the potential dangers of this fuel if mishandled. I dont consider it any woarse than diesel or gas.

Please let me have all you comments good or bad!

beyoungsr,

YES I HAVE BUILT MY OWN HEATERS AND I THINK VERTICAL IS BETTER ,BUT I ALSO THANK THAT A INVERTED/VERTICAL IS BETTER THEN A VERTICAL.

BUT I HAD THE COIL AND THE BLOWER TO START WITH, IF I WERE YOU I WOULD BUY THE $800 VERTICAL FOR STARTERS .:)

Mellow,
Looks like your set up for some serious work! Do I see two or three big Onans in those pics? I see how you inverted the heaters. Were the shells originly a propane tank? Do you get better fuel dispersion being inverted? How many psi those big Onans pushing? Does the one Winco run both heaters? Looks like you set evertthing up to be easier to work on than a lot I have seen.
How many gallons of diesel you put in the poly tank?

Your probably correct and I should order the upright model. Just think the components are on the low end.

BEYOUNGSR,

THERE'S ONLY 2 ONANS 20 HP , 5.6 GPM @ 3,500 PSI

I USED A OLD WATER WELL TANK FOR THE BOTH OF THEM.

THE FUEL UESAGE IS THE SAME.

I HAVE A GENERATOR FOR BOUTH UINTS, CAN AND HAVE RAN BOUTH OFF THE SAME GENERATOR, YOU CAN ALSO RUN LIGHTS IF NEEDED.

IF YOUR TALKING ABOUT THE VERTICAL BURNER FROM (WHOLESALE PARTS AND SUPPLY) I WOULD BUY IT, EVEN IF THE COIL IS SCH .60 IT WILL STILL HOLD UP TO 3,500 PSI EZ FOR 4 OR 5 YEARS OR MORE!

BOUGHT AND SOLD ONE OF THE $800 BURNERS 3 YEARS AGO TO A ROCK PIT THAT NEEDED 30 DAYS TO PAY, INSTALLED IT FOR THEM ALSO , STILL WORKS JUST FINE!;)

Mellow 44,
That is the exact heater I had in mind! Thanks for the input because I was not sure if it would hold up.

BEYOUNGSR,

YES, I DID DESIGN & I BULIT IT THE WAY I WONTER, SO IT WOULD BE EZ TO WORK ON, BUT ITS NOT PERFECT!

THE TRAILER IS 7' 6" WIDE, IT GAVE ME A LITTLE MORE ROOM TO PLAY WITH, THE 2 WASHERS ONLY TAKE UP 37" .

ON THE BACK I HAVE ROOM TO HAUL MT PARKING LOT STRIPER ,
I HAVE A TAILGATE WERE THE SIGN IS IT LET DOWN!

I ALSO ORDER THE TRAILER WITHOUT WOOD IN IT SO I PUT A STEEL BED IN IT!

Mellow 44, I figured you designed and layed out your trailor. I would say it was an excellant use of available space. Hey how much they charge for the trailer without the wood? Do you put 1/8" steel diamond plate in it??

beyoungsr,

it was $2,100 for the 12,000# trailer, it has 20" cross menbers, the cross menbers are C chanel, it sets on the top side of the angel most trailer have angel welded to the bottom side.

for the bed i used flat sheet steel #6 i thank its about 1/8" took 4 sheets and the two peices of 6 X4 angel that holds my motor and generators up on the rails cost $68.00 , i clean the equipment for this scrap metal place and they let me have it cheap.

plus the cost of wire for my wire welder.
