Hoses Getting Holes In Them -- Why???

I have had my second hose fail this month. Less than 3 months old with moderate residential use. A small pin hole developed near the middle of the 100 foot hose and shoots a fine mist through it...as you continue to work, the hole gets bigger and more and more water sprays through it.

The hose type is:

<TABLE border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%"><TBODY><TR><TD colSpan=2>Blue Spray Flex Hose 1 Wire 3/8" x 100' 4000 PSI

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=item-desc colSpan=2>•Lighter than standard hoses •Greater bend radius •Non slip finish on cover •Male solid and swivel fittings •310°F maximum

I emailed Bob at Pressure Tek about this last week and he sent a new hose right away. Then today, the other one did the same thing. Anyone else have this problem as usually the hose just blows instead of develop pin holes? Is this just cheap Chinese hose? For cleaning lots of houses and condos, what hose do you recommend?

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Is 1-wire 4,000 psi hose recommended or should I go with a 2-wire higher psi hose? My skid is a 3,500 psi, 5.6 gpm hot water unit. Thanks as I want something that will last.

We have blown 4 hoses this year already. We had two hoses do the same thing pin hole then blows. We get them repaired, las another 6 months then they usually blow again. We are changing our suplier to ACR products. Tom and Barbara carry googyear hose and at a great price.

Thanks for all the input. With 90% of my work using cold water, it looks like I will be getting 1 or 2 of the following:

Goodyear 100 ft Blue (2 wire) Non-Mark Hose 4,500 PSI x 3/8 in

The weight on this hose is just 25 pounds. The best price I have been able to find for this is $169.99 with free shipping from HigherPowerSupplies.com. Does anyone have a different supplier for less?? Thanks again!

Neptune hoses are having these issues on some batches, I got one in that did that everywhere and chunked it after the first repair in a day or so of being put on a reel. 1 wire smooth cover from dultmeier are one of our favorites as well as the 1 wire that Russ J sent me a month or so back but that cover is a wrap

That is a bummer indeed.

We have gone through a few thousands feet of hose,in the last 8 years and have bought all kinds, goodyear neptune included, I recently started using KobraJet 5800 psi 2 wire type, love in, have about 2500 hours on some sections have 3000 hours on them and still going strong, I think it is only like $1 a foot.

We need 1000' of extra hose one time, went to Northern Tool and bought the scurge of hoses, some yellow some grey. Save your money, these are not hoses that a pro should use. You can get Goodyer hose at northern but it is just not the same quality, and they maret it as a neptune hose, so be ware.

We run some machines with 8.5 gpm @3400 psi.

We tried it on a 6@6000 machine and never blew.

I also use this same type of hose on our 300 degree dry steam unit @300 psi or so and works great.

I have 2000 feet of this hose in daily service, I also have the blue non marking version of this hose, and have the same great results.

Good Luck,

Chris, you just brought up a point that I am unclear on. Smooth vs. wrapped hoses. What are the pros and cons of each?

Wrapped Hose:
New generation of pressure washer hose specially designed for improved abrasion, temperature, and working pressure. Designed to standard SAE R1 & R2 dimensions, this series outperforms all other hoses in its class. Tube is constructed of NBR-Nitrile blend Class A ORS for various soaps, oils and chemicals. Reinforcement is high tensile strength wire, one or two wire braid. COVER is a special synthetic compound, class A ORS (oil and animal fat resistant) for longer service life in more harsh applications. Temperature -40° F. to 250° F with intermittent 300° F. Note: Not recommended for steam service.

Stick with the goodyear neptune or better. Just don't even waste your time on that cheap chinese garbage that is being pawned off on end users as quality hose. it is not quality hose and down time due to a hose break makes you no money.
We went a round with the chinese stuff about 3 years ago and the hoses failed in the middle on the ends and the swivel ends locked up in less than a week of use. It is crap just get good hose good ends and be done with it.

I agree 100%.....we have run into the same issue with one of our suppliers...the cheap MADE IN CHINA couplingsthey kept sending us were blowing, cracking and otherwise costing LOTS of time and we all know Time =Money.

With this said, should one only choose wrapped hoses and not smooth ones? Are there any advantages to the smooth hoses?
