Hose Reels

Wondering how many of you guys running 200' of hose on reels have to pull all the hose from the reel when doing something that requires maybe 100' only? I ask because if I don't pull all the hose off, the hose left on the reel loosens up from the trigger being on/off and makes a big loose mess of the uncoiled hose. My electric Titan 5518 reel didn't come with a pin lock, I think they used to? Either way though, pinning the reel in place doesn't prevent the hose from loosening up from pulling trigger on and off.

Any tricks for dealing with this?

*I've seen the discussion about it being best to pull all the hose from the reel vs letting some on the reel. I don't care if it's good for the hose or not,..sometimes 200' is just too much to deal with. I like the continuous length and couplers not getting caught, so using a shorter hose on the reel and adding sections only when needed isn't an option. Just wondering if there are any tricks to stop the loosening of the hose. If not, I'll just deal with it by pulling it all off.

Thanks,
Jeff

I use my hose reel for storage, I usually have 5oo feet of hose on it. Each length of hose has quick connects so I can pull off how much hose I need for the job and than connect it to my unloader (witch has a ball valve mounted to the outlet, so I can disconnect with out shutting off the machine) or add the soap injector

Jeff,

what mike said seems to be more and more common solution now as i too have been searching for a solution. I have just moved to a new reel and will be using it for storage as well, and pulling off what i need, and hooking up.

I was also considering buying a small 100' reel and hanging it from the ladder rack and using it for little quick driveways, small jobs, and demos.. that way i could keep 75 feet on there, and have enough to get things done, and leave it all hooked up, and make it that much quicker.

Have 200 on the real but have 400 extra with me at all times. I have no room for another real so I hang the extra hoses from the ladder with the Velcro straps from HOme Depot. Found it faster than unrolling all the hose. If the ladder is needed just pull the Velcro and hose fall strait down. Much faster to get 75 out for just some flat work at a small job.

i need a 2nd reel also. Probably going with a 150ft reel and have 50ft of hose spooled on first but not plumbed. i have either 200ft or 250ft on a summit reel which just kicks my butt. Most homes i need less than 150 to reach the backyard. Jeff i'll send you a picture of how i secure the reels. my chem hose is a cheap reel without a lock and the summit hardly catches the pin hole.

I agree with the guys above. I have my hoses in 50 and 100 ft sections and just take off what's needed. A of times I don't like running it through the reel at all. A well-respected veteran on here told me one time when we were working that it can choke the flow on bigger machines.

We run 150' on electric reels and pull all hose no mater what.

Took all the swivels off mine except the roof cleaning reel. That'll be gone by this weekend. We pull what we use. Reel is for storage and convenience now. Less to worry about.

My reel came with a pinlock, but if you do not have one install one... I then pull the hose taught and secure it to the bottom of the reel with a 1 foot bungee.

I've been doing this for a couple years now and it's solved the problem. The only time I have an issue is if I forget the bungee.

Feel free to text me if you want a picture!

Oh geez,..I was already to update the solution I found,..but now seeI should have paid more attention to THIS post,Ha,Ha,.. I apparently blindly read it at the time,...because I just figured it out recently. I installed a pin lock and also secure the hose to the trailer just as it comes off the reel and it stopped the looseness I complained about in the 1st. post here. See what happens when you speed read over responses. Wish I would have paid more attention to this,...but anyhow,..this idea does work. So much better than pulling all the hose off when you may only need 100'.

Instead of a bungee I use a conduit clamp,..BUT,..the idea is the same and I obviously can't take credit for the fix,..just secure the reel and the hose,..like the man said.

Ah man Mike like the ball valve idea. Unless I'm using all the hose I'll just pull whats needed and connect at the whip line after the injector or at the unloader. Great idea the ball valve will save me from shutting my engine off. Thats going to save my starter and time. Hardly ever run anything through the HR manifold. There's definitely a noticeable flow difference when using a SC and shooting higher without a hosereel.

All this short hose stuff .I seem to use over 400ft in most cases here on boat docks .Im gonna start leaving my hoses on the trailer in 100ft lengths ,Cause my reels jump too and make a mess.I carry 1000 ft of hose total .

Our pressure washer hose is a continuous 300' length on a 18" manual Titan. We pull off what we need and pull a bungee cord tight from the left rear to right front. This keeps the backlashing from making a mess. The pw can handle being coiled and working like that, our softwash pumps can't power through it so we pull off what we need and hook directly to a jumper off booster for maximum rinse efficiency. Ideally you should just pull off what you need and hook it to unloader. I just like that continuous piece and no couplings to worry about as much as I use it.
