Hose perforator.

OK - this is new for me - a hose perforator.(no joke)
Its a piece of wood with a handle on it with lots of nails sticking out just long enough to pierce the outer cover of hi pressure hose for getting rid of the pimples / bumps caused by moisture being caught between the outer cover and the wire. These pimples/bumps are not only a hot water phenomena. and the perforations ensure a long life.
Is this news to anyone?
I copied this post from tgs and paste it here as I had 47 views and no comments - let me try ask again.

Hello Rob,

I have never heard of it either! Do you have a picture or link to the company?

If you have ever had a hose burst with 200+ degree water inside and your right next to it! Wow, it will get your attention!

It will take a lot of convincing to make me put holes in the jacket instead of replacing the hose.

Good Morning Gentlemen,

It is not that common on pressure washer hoses
today, most pressure wash hose is now designed
specifically for pressure washer use.

Pin pricking hydraulic hoses for use with hot high
pressure washers was common 15 years ago.

Here is the result of a Yahoo search for pin pricked
hose.;)

Absolutly, Stewarts of America manufacture hose perforators. We manufacture both hand held pinned perforators and industrial size pinned rollers. We manufacture these rollers for many of the major manufacturers of hose. Our hand perforators are ideal for getting rid of bumps caused by moisture being caught between the outer cover and the wire of high pressure hoses. It is proven that the micro perforations extend the life of hi pressure hoses.

I have been to a couple of hose shops that repair all kinds of industrial hoses but never seen that device that puts holes into the cover.

Curious, where are these results or studies to show how the holes help the hose last longer, I would like to read about it out of curiosity.

I have never had any bumps in my high pressure hot water hoses before or seen them on other contractor's trailer rigs' hoses.

Just wondering.

i worked at a hydraulic shop for about five years and the only times hose needs to be perforated is for gas use like propane or air. a cotton cover hose is rated for gasses already cause its able to permeate gasses through the cover. goodyear steam hose has a line down it with holes spaced about 1cm apart. The most important strength related part of the hose is the wire braid and the cover is the only thing protecting the wire. Ive seen many a hose blow cause the wire is rusted and i bet all of you have too. If the hose is perforated already then it does not have to be done and if it isnt it also does not have to be done. If you have to do 1 foot sections all down the hose a foot of pricked and a foot of not and so on. Then where it blows is gonna be the deciding factor.

Great Info there , Thanks

We had bought perferated hose a few years ago and I will never buy it again!!!!!! Pressure washer hose is wet all the time and when the steel braid gets and stays wet it rusts. When it rusts it no longer has the strentgh to hold pressure. Do not perferate your hoses!!!
