Hood inspection

Can I inspect a kitchen exhaust vent while the kitchen is open? Do I have time to look at the vent and take a quick picture from the top while the kitchen exhaust fan is raised up without the kitchen filling up with smoke?

Thanks,
Chris

I would think it would depend on the circumstances, is the fan easily tipped back, if it is hinged it will be no problem, and does the manager have a problem with the fan being turned off for a few seconds. Obviously don't try to do it at busy times of the day.
I do have a possible problem to taking a picture that way, I tried once to ge a picture of the duct while they where cooking, and all I could get was a reflection from the flash off of the smoke in the duct, picture was useless. I haven't tried it again.

When I visit a customer for a estimate I take several digital pictures of the store. This would give my crew a idea of what to expect at a 1-AM service call. I take a picture of anything that would save them time on the job. In fact I even take a picture of the back of the store so that they can find the water outlet. I have been told that they can save at least a half hour.
