Apart from personal preferences...which is the better engine? Specifically paired with an Udor gear drive 8gpm, 3500psi. I'm not sure the HP ratings of hondas, but I imagine the Subaru definitely has more power. In fact, in seems to me that the Honda is a bit underpowered to turn this pump, no? Does anyone have real data on fuel economy or durability for these two?

GX690 all the way. I have 2 of them and no problems at all. My units are 10 GPM running at 3300 PSI without any issues with lack of power or anything.

Thanks Vince. Do you track your gph for the fuel?

If I had to guess it would be right around 2.5 GPH. I know that the Kohler 27 HP Engines I used to run on my Hydroteks would burn right around 2 GPH. Keep in mind also that Subaru parts are more expensive and can be harder to find at times.

Subaru of course has more power, when they are running. I know about 2 subaru eh72's. Mine, which sucked from day one, conking out when the temps reached 90, which is everyday here. And Dave Nezat's which is in the shop right now after less than a year. Anything else? I switched to gx690's and haven't had a single problem in 500 hours. Running 10 gpm @ 3000 on the Honda no problem at all.
