Honda GX630 Engine Keeps Shutting Down

Another thing it could be that I have had a problem with my honda gx 670 is: The motor ran fine on idle but every time I pullled the trigger and put a load on it the motor would bog down from time to time then eventually everytime i put a load on it the motor would die. I ran the motor and pulled one spark plug wire at a time and if the motor doesn't run with one spark plug wire unpluged then that was the bad one and that means you have a bad starter coil. Hope this helps. Yeah and you should not be having any of these problems with a new machine.

I replaced both starter coils even though only the left one was bad. Has ran like a chap ever since other than the bad solenoid.

Weve had the exact same problem

Well, a lot of good info here in this thread anyways. I might replace the solenoid anyways. Good luck

Bad gas doesn't come from the factory, a weak fuel pump or solenoid does.

Could the Ignition Magneto Module be crapping-out !?? ..yes.
..and the weak spark makes the engine "run out of HP",
..and seem like it's not getting enough gas.
the EASY test is.. if you spray Carb-Cleaner at the carb while it's trying to stall,
and the engine speed comes UP with this added fuel, it needs more fuel.
If the speed drops-off, and engine dies with "added fuel", the spark is the problem.
..and pulling a plug wire whilst it runs is the acid-test.

This time i would use my one year warranty and tell them to put and engine on this machine that will let me work and make money. They know if you wanted a may run engine you would have bought one used. All this down time is crazy on new equipment. I had an issue with a brand new kohlor engine from espec about a year ago. I took it there the guy told the tech if he couldnt fix it within 4 hours to put another new engine on it and be done with it.

I understand this way of thinking, but here's the way warranty won't help here..
There's a great chance that the hiding bug crawled in after the system left the factory..
Debris in a jet, or bad gas deposits will NOT be covered under the warranty.

NObody wants the downtime, and nobody wants to pay for the troubleshooting..
in principal, it's a nut that doesn't taste very good.
BUT.. the MOST expensive part of this equation, is of course..
..the lost jobs slipping through the hole in your schedule called downtime.
This is why my systems are designed to be SUPER-easy to troubleshoot,
and we talk the customer though it as quickly as possible.
Who is responsible always filters out of the final-outcome.

In this case, the pressure washer mfr. is not responsible for what they did not install..
they put the motor in the system, they don't cover the "parts of" the engine.
The engine mfr does have a warranty in place for reliability of integral components..
If the solenoid is bad, they'll reimburse, along with replacement labor, to a point..
..and that point is directly affected by whether a properly authorized service-center does the work.
..Double-jeopardy on troubleshooting cost..
If the bug troubleshooting is NOT covered by the pressure washer mfr as "Good Will",
..you're stuck with begging the engine mfr..
and there lies the reason I STOPPED buying Honda engines abruptly, almost 2 decades ago.
The engine service center will hold you over a barrel, for any time and/or part that is not covered by the warranty..
and I NEVER want to be in that position.
SO..
We try to impress our customers as best we can..
.. We eat occasional "might-be-warranty" work, ..but that's just good will,
and we explain it as such.
Bad gas deposits don't come from the factory,
and a "weak solenoid" or weak fuel-pump DOES..
the engine mfr. should cover the repair ..NOT the machine mfr.

Briggs and Kohler are both pretty-good about helping at this level.
THat's who and what we recommend, and why we say..
Your downtime is CERTAINLY part of the "your total cost" equation.
..aka.. Long-Term-Low-Cost,
or not.

There used to be several shops here 10 years ago that you could take your small engine to to get them fixed, get them warranty work and have them within a week.

Now there are no warranty repair shops here locally.

There is the small amount of the small "garage out back" small engine repair guys but only 1 good small engine repair shop and he is expensive but always gets the problem solved no matter what it is. Just wish there were more of them so he would not be overworked all the time.

UPDATE: New Pressure Pro Honda GX630 Not Running

After another full day of trying to get this engine going - and finding a local service place that can help..... STILL NOT RUNNING....

Yesterday, after reading some of the replies to this thread, I:

* checked for any corroded ground wires, did not find any.

This morning, I drained the entire fuel tank, thinking it has to be fuel-feed related.... if I spray carb cleaner in the throat of the carb, it keeps it alive, so according to previous posts, its not an electrical issue.

After I drained the fuel tank, I verified the fuel line from tank to fuel filter was not clogged, blew air through it, nothing discharged..... HOWEVER:

I inspected the inside of the fuel tank with a camera scope tool..... I would have like to have removed the tank from the skid, but DUE TO A HORRIBLE DESIGN BY PRESSURE PRO, the tank is BOLTED to the skid frame from underneath the tank!!!!! my 800lb skid is bolted to the floor of the rig, and I would have to unbolt it, and then lift the 800lbs up in order to try and unbolt the tank from underneath - an insanely poor design in my opinion....

Back to the scope, thanks to the GREAT QUALITY CONTROL from pressure pro, the attached picture shows what I was able to ultimately see with the scope and then vacuum out of the tank - red poly shavings from when they drilled the fuel line access holes in to the tank!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Pressure Pro!!!!! great job!!!! IMG_0305.JPG

Is it likely that this crap floating around it there was getting sucked into the fuel line outlet of the tank????? Quite likely....
(The nozzle was not in the tank, just in the picture for reference.)

So Jerry, how do you MANAGE for that???? poor quality delivered from the manufacturer???.... I guess not to buy from such a company???

This, in addition to the RUSTY FRAMING NAIL that pressure pro used to rig the throttle to max position.... what the heck kind of quality is that!!!!???? In addition to the poor design of how the tanks are mounted, making it infeasible to remove the tank to remove THE CRUD THEY LEFT IN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I regret my decision to purchase from this manufacturer.... on top of the fact that I have been unable to locate any local honda repair center, and have been bounced around to 3 others since talking to the master dealer that PP sent me to.....

SO, after vacuuming out the tank, filling it with fresh fuel, while letting the fuel line from the back of the tank drain into a bucket in order to let any other debris maybe flush out..... put everything back together, and.... would not even re-start at all.... turns over, and dies right away.... if I spray carb cleaner in the throat, it keeps it alive, but dies when stopped.

I loosened the carb drain screw, and had about a spoonful of fuel drain from the bottom of the carb, so it tells me fuel is getting into the carb right? is a spoonful the correct amount? I dont know....

Something in the carb??? who knows.... if there is, I CAN BET WHAT FRICKIN COLOR PLASTIC ITS MADE OF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way.... BOB WILLIAMSON from PressureTek, who I have purchased some smaller things from in the past, but not this skid, CALLED ME THIS MORNING, because he read this thread and just called to offer his help..... I really, really respect that.... A big thank you to Bob.... really stand out customer service.... and I was not even his customer on this piece of equipment!!!!!

Paul Kassander who I brought the skid through has also been in constant contact with me trying to support it the best as he can as a middle man, but as of yet, no one really knows where the exact cause/problem is....

So, I have an appointment with a Honda engine repair place about 2 hours from me on Weds morning..... they dont stock any parts for this engine, so if anything has to be ordered, I would have to drive up there again a few days later when the parts arrive....

over 5 days down, unable to work due to this..... Yes, I need a redundant piece of equipment, which I was looking to do anyway..... I am quite sure its not going to be from Pressure Pro....

On my GX670 it is right behind the fan cover. I'm not familiar with the new model that you have but on mine I had to remove all of the air cleaner on the top and the fan cover on the front. Then you follow the spark plug wires at one end will be the starter coils and at the other end the spark plugs of course. Before you do that make sure the engine idles on each spark plug seperatly. Start motor and unplug one plug at a time. If one of the spark plugs wont run the motor then that is a bad starter coil.

I took the unit back from Bob he was not able to get a Honda service center within a few hundred miles that was familiar with this engine (it was new at the time). I gave him a full refund and he purchased a different machine that he wanted. I got the machine back tested it and it turned out that Bob as full of it..jk

It was doing exactly what he said. Since we had done everything else I ended up replacing the carb and have been using it for a backup ever since and it has worked perfect, it is actually one of my most reliable older units (when my guys don't steal parts off it for the other machines). I tried cleaning the carb several times but it just didn't work, once I figured out the new part was cheaper than my labor it was fine, just not sure what went bad I it maybe something with the float.
