Honda GX630 Engine Keeps Shutting Down

I have a NEW (6 months old) Pressure Pro 8gpm HW skid with a Honda GX630 engine. It worked great for the the first 4 months or so, then while washing one day about a month ago, it just cut off, like it ran out of gas... could not get it restarted, oil level was fine, there was gas of course, fuel filter was fine, and even replaced just in case....

Somehow, we got it running again, and it was fine for about 1 month, then.... at the start of a job on monday, it started, and soon as I pulled the trigger to start washing, it quit again. It would not restart, and after an hour or so, it would idle, but die when the trigger was pulled. Took it to a small engine repire place recommended by Pressure Pro. We checked everything again, new fuel filter, replaced the fuel line, and even the fuel pump. I had heard about the gas cap/vapor lock issue, and trying it with the gas cap loose did not help either.

The tech finally found a small plasic/mesh trash filter that is part of the carburetor fuel line attachment barb, and it was completely collapsed on itself. The repair guy removed it, and it seemed to solve the problem.... I did 3 house washes, and some trucks yesterday, and this morning when I went to do a job, same thing again!!!!!! it started up for about 10 seconds, started to sputter/surge, and then died.... will not restart at all now.

This is only six months old...i've heard everything about water in the fuel due to ethanol.... but my unit does not sit for more than 24 hours without running, and gas is always being put in it... i.e, the gas never has a chance to get old from sitting.

This is my only unit, and I've been down for 4 days now...... Anyone have any thoughts, suggestions???

Thanks!

Bob did you check the spark plugs? I just had a problem similar with my Gx 690 less than 150 hrs. Solved with new plugs.
Ed, what were your symptomns that new plugs solved? It ran flawlessly for 8 hrs yesterday... If I shoot carb cleaner in the carb throat, it will run, until i stop spraying it... Seems like the plugs have spark....

I have a Pressure Pro with Honda GX670 had the same problems and finaly figured out it was the fuel solenoid. Ordered a new one and put it in and has been runing great for 4 months now.

Those solenoids are made to work perfectly under "normal running conditions".
If there is debris or "Bad Gas Goo" built up around it, it may or may not openall the way, when it is energized to do so..

Bad fuel is a management problem..
That is what you get from the fuel stations now.. alcohol diluted, with gooey-additives added,
so the octane level is "right" for sale.
But..
you have to make sure the junk gasoline cannot keep you from working..
Use fuel-injector-cleaner in your fuel, just to keep the goo from impeding performance.
Use Fuel-Stabilizer if you are going to store the fuel for more than a few weeks,
especially, if you live in the hotter states..
Alcohol eveporates faster than actual gasoline.. and the goo formations plug jets, and immobolize fuel solenoids.
Know this, and manage it.

99% of my motor problems are due to bad fuel, low oil shutoff and worn spark plugs. I use a shot of Marvels Mystery oil in the gas every once in a while that keeps the fuel stabilized and system clean. Its good stuff with a goofy name.

Where we at with this Bob? Id really like to see this resolved. I know the feeling.
I'm dead in the water still. This morning, I had some hope from the guy that said his similar problem was the fuel solenoid. I removed the solenoid and inspected it for debris, it was completely clean... I tested it by putting 12v across it, and it actuated fine.I changed the oil to SAE 30 weight, thinking the 5w-30 was too thin, and not creating enough oil pressure (a guess from Paul Kassander), I also changed the plugs too. Started it up, and it ran great.... Put it under load and it was running fine... But, I was too cautious to pat myself on the back yet.... Shut it down to check over to make sure all connections etc were ok... Started it back up, and in 10 seconds under load,it died again..... Threw the hose on the ground, and closed the door of the shop, and came home.....don't know what else to do... Waiting to hear from Paul to see what pressure pro is going to do.....

my solenoid craped too. same symptoms cleaning it didnt help either...seemed like it worked normal under cleaning...but replacing it did help...also had a problem with my pin connector from the voltage regulator ..think it was my stator wire grounded...but it was frying the connector..i mean it melted...put your hand on the wires going into the connector if you can get ir running long enough lol..i just unplugged tge connector and gave me temp relief.

It keeps sounding like no matter what you do, it will always start after some time. Classic sign of the fuel getting hung up somewhere. But what do I know? Really wish I knew enough to help you. Looks like a back up machine is in order. I figured out my problem by going on a small-engines-Honda-forum. Try Googling your problem in full sentence.

Troubleshooting fuel problems quickly

Ditto on the Marvel Mystery Oil.. GREAT stuff !

I'm just tryin' to lend a hand, I figure Russ is busy, and I enjoy troubleshooting.

Let's eliminate the downtime..
The problems with more possibilities can become verytime-consuming.

Fuel tank vent can be a problem,
carb-vent can be,
leaky valve between crankcase and pulse-pump could be it.
Dilapidating fuel line can be an issue,
blasted fuel filter, debris in lines and jets, etc..
..
Use a fine-toothed-comb, be methodical,
and try the easiest things FIRST..
example:
Remove the air filter, just in case it's choking the engine !

otherwise.., I suggest it is time to pressure-feed with an electric fuel pump.
It tests an entire group of issues, and is the Fix, for a few of them.

This time i would use my one year warranty and tell them to put and engine on this machine that will let me work and make money. They know if you wanted a may run engine you would have bought one used. All this down time is crazy on new equipment.I had an issue with a brand new kohlor engine from espec about a year ago.I took it there the guy told the tech if he couldnt fix it within 4 hours to put another new engine on it and be done with it.

Double check your dipstick and oil cap gasket. Any break in the air tightness of the crankcase could interfere with the pulse the fuel pump needs to see.

Another thing it could be that I have had a problem with my honda gx 670 is: The motor ran fine on idle but every time I pullled the trigger and put a load on it the motor would bog down from time to time then eventually everytime i put a load on it the motor would die. I ran the motor and pulled one spark plug wire at a time and if the motor doesn't run with one spark plug wire unpluged then that was the bad one and that means you have a bad starter coil. Hope this helps. Yeah and you should not be having any of these problems with a new machine.

I replaced both starter coils even though only the left one was bad. Has ran like a chap ever since other than the bad solenoid.

Thanks for all your help Classic Touch..... So you are saying it might be a bad coil pack? Where exactly is the coil? Thanks ,Bob
