Home made surface cleaner

I presently have a 16" surface cleaner from Northern tool. It has beed working well since I got it. I have plans to make a bigger one. I think they came from Hot Wizzard. Would the spinner from the 16" work on a larger one made from a barrel bottem. I plan on using a plastic barrel. Another question, is my 5 gpm, 3000psi large enough for this big of a cleaner

Hello Lenny,

I'm the one that developed the plans for the "WashPro 2000" surface cleaner. The spinner from your other unit should work on a bigger one. You will have to be able to put longer arms on it though. I would reconsider the plastic drum. I tried one in the early stages. If you use hot water, the plastic will get soft and deform and droop. It would probably work well with cold water.

If you have any questions about the project, contact me at Rick@Prowash.net.

Good luck with the project.

See ya,
Rick

Rick,
I did not think about the plastic and hot water. I have aquired a drum and plan on startint on it next week. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks

Rick, thank you so much for letting me share those plans with the world! You are a big help to the ones that want to make their own. I have made every effort to put the credit where it belongs.

Your welcome Wiz.

Thank you for using your website for distribution. The plans were meant to be available to all that want them. It's my way of giving back to the P/W community for all the help that I got when I started out.

See ya,
Rick

I finished my surface cleaner tonight. I made a couple of changes in the design. I put four wheels on it and I made the handle so I could flip it over and go in either direction with it. I also put a hand trigger on it and put a pipe across the handle to help keep my hands warm. I will try it out tomorrow and then use it on monday to clean a shopping center.

Thanks Rick for the plans to get started.

Lenny do I have your permission to post that picture on my website?

couple of suggestions

get rid of the trigger gun and put a high pressure ball valve. That is less hand fatuige and less wear. It will also allow you to put a quick disconect to switch to a wand without going to the wash unit.
if you used a handle that was big enuff to run the pressure hose threw it, it would be less bulky and could take it out in the summer. Should act like a radiator.
What did you use to make the skirt?
mudflap?

Nice looking rig Lenny. It should work out well for you. A lot of people think the home made units will look crappy. You just proved then wrong.

Everybody has their preference on the trigger gun arrangement. We choose to leave our 36" wand on the hose at all times. We connect it direectly to the swivel via a short two wire hose. This allows us to disconnect from the surface cleaner and pop in a nozzle in about four seconds. No ball valve needed and no trips back and forth to shut down the unit.

Again congratulations on a job well done.

See ya,
Rick

Worked great

I used it last night and it worked great. I couldn't believe how fast it cleaned. I have a 16" cleaner from Northern and I would have to go at a snails pace. I could move faster as it cleaned 6" wider path.

I just might go into business building these. lol
