I'm not a gun person so I don't understand much about this project (below) other than apparently the guys who understand this stuff think it's cool. It's a recent rifle my husband built for fun and a friend wrote a blog on it. I do know that he made the stock from scratch out of a block of walnut -- and I could see the "coolness" of that. Anyway, thought you gun guys might enjoy looking at it. Photos are not very high quality (taken from a phone).

Do you every wish that some one would make something that was different? Well, look no farther than this, because I found different. A custom Mosin Nagant chambered in the venerable .405 Winchester Center Fire. The cartridge was introduced by Winchester in 1904. The pairing of the rifle and cartridge are period correct and makes for a very interesting piece. I know the gunsmith personally, and thought it would be cool to show off some of his projects (and get my blog more traffic).
This project started as a 1898 Russian Mosin Nagant 7.62x54R.
The action, bolt and trigger are all that remain of the original rifle. It’s now a single shot. The magazine was removed to enhance the lines of the “European” style stock and schnabel forend. The stock is American black walnut and the barrel is 26 inches long. The ugly original bolt handle has been replaced by an elegant butter knife bolt handle.
