Help with stolen equipment

Mark that was a great post, the working man is going to be the minority before to much longer if these theives keep running loose without being stopped.

Only a piece of sh+t would steal a man's tools that he uses to make a living just so they don't have to work. Around here the meth heads come from the outlying areas to steal, it usually isn't your neighbors doing it. They'll sell it for scrap value.

I keep my trailer triple locked, a puck lock on the doors, a receiver lock, a chain on the wheels and motion lights aiming right at it. If they want it they'll end up getting it but I do what I can to slow them down.

I live in a fairly nice neighborhood, when my neighbor's car was stolen in the middle of the day last year I changed my habits. Everything is locked all the time.

I agree 100%! I have had equipment stolen out of my truck before, and I couldn't comprehend the idea that someone would take my means of feeding my family. I've had an ipod, truck speakers, a mountain bike, and some other stuff stolen before, but I can deal with that a little better. When someone is willing to risk putting you out of business and sell your equipment for 5-10% what you paid for it, that is a whole different level of scumbag.

I'm sorry to hear that Keenan! I know your pain. I've had many things stolen over the years, from complete trailers to gas cans.

I finally invested in a little motion detection system and it works great. I got two of the sensors for outside and they transmit wirelessly to our indoor chime. One is mounted above our garage and points into the driveway. The other is in our entry area. I have chased away a few potential thieves over the last 2 years with it.

A little update....got a new pressure washer today thanks to Power Wash store. Also, a person was recently arrested for several outstanding burglary and larceny warrants. He will have at least another charge for larceny coming as he was seen taking a home pressure washer from someone in another neighborhood as the victim arrived home. The victim reported the larceny along with suspect and vehicle information. Apparently PD said they had been looking for this guy because they had warrants on him but were unable to locate him. A known user (shocker). Long story short, the description of the suspect from my house closely resembles the booking photo of the guy who got picked up. So far, nothing from my theft has been pinned on this guy yet but it sounds like he will be facing multiple new charges in the very near future. I really do not care if he gets charged with my theft, I would just love to have my pressure washer back and use it has a backup or a 2nd unit and hire a helper. A strange coincidence is that the victim who reported seeing the suspect take her pressure washer is my wife's coworker. Small world, huh?

Congrats on the new unit! Too bad they couldn't recover your stuff. I would love to pull up and catch one in the act, 250 degree water and a 0 degree tip tends to irratate the skin a bit! . Just kidding guys, lol, I would just shoot him. I hate the fact that people do this, it really does take food off the table. Hope they recover your stuff, don't give up the search! If he sold it, He probably sold it locally, so you might see it around town someday. Good luck

If they would come out with tracking devices like Lo-Jack but more affordable, people could put them on all kinds of equipment, not just the trailer itself, that would really be nice.

No monthly fees either, just a fee to activate it when something is stolen so you are not paying a monthly fee on multiple units if that is possible.

They make a device for trailers that's $200 install (inconspicuous) and a $12-15 a month plan that stays charged up to 2 months....

That sounds like the way to go Jeremy..

I've been researching something just like what you described. This thing is really small and could possibly be mounted to equipment as well. It will give nearly real-time cellular tracking. I'm trying to figure out how to make it cheap.
