Hello need little help.

Mark, why would you attempt to pass on info that you don't know anything about? Reckless advice...

Chris, if someone has an issue with your methods or detergents, just walk away. Trying to change someones mind about whether something is safe or not, is just setting yourself up for problems and callbacks. As soon as one plant dies (and it could be months after you've been there) you'll be on the hook for it. Don't risk your company's reputation on someone who's looking to burn you!!
Thats a better solution Mike, good advice.

I would pass on this roof. It could have also been a competitor calling to see what you use to clean a house/roof with. i get calls like this all the time.

That is a very good point.

If they start asking a lot of questions on the phone, I would try to get their info to go give them a free estimate because the system and chemicals we use are proprietary and we don't talk about that stuff on the phone but we are happy to give free estimates and will discuss how we will clean their property professionally, safely and they will be happy.

If they are very persistent and you feel that they are just wasting your time, politely ask for their number to call them back when you can because you have customers on the other line.

This will get rid of a lot of the competitors trying to find out about what you use and how you do it.

Chris you have been around awhile now, and this is what your stuck on? Come on man this is newbie stuff. If you cant answer that question then honestly you should not be P/W. Really !!

I think he is asking for help not for someone to bust his balls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris,

I don't know anything about this, but you can check it out. This info was PM'ed to me. You can check it out. It may be what you are looking for.

Hey Mark, I was not breaking his balls, I was just being honest. That question is like me taking my car to a mechanic for a tune up and he ask's me where my spark plugs were.

I know that I would be looking else where for a competent mechanic. That is the reason why he had almost 80 views on that post before someone answered him, they probably couldnt beleive he was asking about something he should know before damaging someone's home. If I hurt your feelings then I apologize.

Had a call like this yesterday about a roof. Insisting to know what methods and cleaning agents I use. I offered to give him a free estimate and asked for the property address... his reply ... "errr I don't know yet" lol. Then he hung up. I googled the telephone number and it was a handyman.

No where in my statement did I advise him to use the product. I simply gave him some information that he could research if he wanted to. I don't know how that could be reckless

I shouldn't have to explain this but:
If your passing on info about a product, most would assume you are promoting it as a viable option (even if you say check it out yourself). That's why I call it reckless. If you don't have real world experience with it, why even mention it, even though you put out a couple of disclaimers? Ask yourself how would you feel if someone on the BBS told you to check something out, that turned out to be bogus info? would you take advice from this person again? It's your reputation your putting out there, so research it before you offer it up to someone else.

Not trying to bust your balls or anything.......

I guess I'm missing your point. No one had mentioned an alternative, that's all I did. If a person only takes information from this site and never offers help that is selfish. I'm sure it happens all the time. In my opinion, this site is designed to help people and pass along information. Chris asked if anyone new of a bleach alternative and was asking for suggestions. I would not hesitate to pass along information that I have heard of. I would never just take anybody's word on a product that I have not used before. It is up to the person receiving the information to do their homework.

I have learned a lot from this site and I am glad to give back to others if possible. If trying to help someone hurts my reputation that's OK with me. If you think that's reckless that's OK with me too.

I think Lenny did mention oxygen bleach (sodium percarb), but no matter. I guess I have a little bias concerning this guys claims on the product you mentioned (and I'll never mention him, or it by name, don't want to help their SEO numbers). It's simply an overpriced sodium percarb solution that anyone can buy in bulk if they want. I have the MSDS on file if you'd like it. Also, it doesn't work nearly as well as bleach (but we all know that right?).

Didn't want to get in a pizzin match here, but I think the gist of the advice given was to help Chris overcome a customers objections to bleach, not to offer up alternatives. Offering up an alternative tells a customer that they can dictate how you wash. Next they'll tell you how to run your equipment, and so on.

I've learned alot on here as well, and try to give back when possible. I would just advise folks to be careful who they hitch their wagon to...

maybe I misunderstood you but the way you first brought it up Chris as an environmental issue was what I was referring to, to answer the question yes bleach has issues but it does degrade rather quickly so its long term effects are minimal in the amounts we use, the more water we rinse with the more diluted it becomes, if she is very conscious about it or if it comes up ever again rather than getting into a pissing match with the tell them you use a propritary blended mix that contains diluted sodium hypochlorite (which is a chemical compound found in bleach) and whan the job is finished that you will neutralize the ph. (you can achieve this by downstreaming a little citric acid solution). The ground is acidic and this wont hurt the plants.
Thank you russ that information is realy helpfull to know how neutralize it. Russ how much citric acid would I put into tank to ds. Is citric acid also know as vinager or am I thinking of something else.

Chris,
Before you jump in with both feet here, understand this: citric acid or any acid for that matter can cause damage. Any acid will react with aluminum, which many window casings and frames are made of. It can also kill plant at sufficient levels. My suggestion to you, would be to continue with how you are currently washing houses, and just make sure to rinse a lot. Water is the best way to neutralize bleach (dilution) without having wild swings in pH levels. Keep it simple!! We use bleach all the time on deck maintenance and house washing, yet never used another chemical to neutralize.

The actual chemical that neutralizes hypochlorite is Sodium Thiosulphate. It will effect ground water so its not a viable neutralizer for our applications.
