heavy equipment soap

Been doing heavy euipment for about 2 months. Wanting to know how others wash equipment. For faded greasy euipment, I've tried everything from up/down,x-jet, & shurflo. Haven't got a system yet. For this, I mix 3 cups sodium hydrox and 1 gal degreaser to 5. Works good. For newer paint I am running into problems, a little streaking sometimes, and today I faded one out and had to go back over it by hand" what a bitch".

Also if someone has experience with this, how do you wash the grease from the bottom of a scraper "pan" neck. I've heard a fire hose, but don't have one accesssible usually.

What soap are you using, tried some locally. About the same as my mix. Looking for something that buffers the sodium and can use pretty strong. Following the mix on most haevy equip degreasers 1 : 50. Hell, you mise well just blast with hot water.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Part of the problem withthe streaking is the surfactants and rinsing aents that you are using. The reason that the you are not getting a clean rinse, and you will not unless you add more rinsing agents and surfactants to the chemicals. Another problem could be the chemical that is the basis for the degreaser that you are using. If it is Potassium Hydroxide based, it is not the greatest for cleaning painted finishes.

Thanks for the reply. Should I use a good truck soap? What soap would you use? What is a good degreaser thats not hydroxide based "that works well".

Sodium Hydroxide is fine, but potassium hydroxide is hard to get a clean rinse. Brown Derby, Delco DNB 1433, Delco DNB 1430 and others are all really good degreasers, and have good rinse agents. //

We use a Sodium Metasilicate based product. Been getting it from Craft Labs in Ft. Wayne for 20 years. I will try to post a picture of some of the equipment that we clean.
