Gutter Zap

I also got around to trying Gutter Zap today. The home is possibly 15 years old and has never been cleaned. The gutters and roof overhangs looked almost black. I pre warned my customer I wasn't sure I could do him any good on those areas. The UPS man got to my shop this afternoon just before I left to do the job. I didn't think it would be good to try and spray it on so I mixed it 1 to 1 in a small bucket and applied it to all the guttering and eves with a 9" truck brush.
Unbeliveable! Although I still don't think it would have cleaned these particular gutters without the brush, I along with the homeowner was totally amazed. Once again I'm a hero, thanks to Mike Hughes and Ron Strikland.

Gutter Zap has worked very well for me as well. I have had some cases where it was not touchless, and needed some mild scrubbing. But actually, I find that it is more economical to mix it up in a bucket, and apply it to the gutters with a thick brush, it seems to waste less product that way.

On mobile homes, and single story homes, I sometimes also apply it with a pump up sprayer that I rigged a longer extension wand onto. It makes less mess and wastes less than trying to xjet it.

Tony, how much do you usually dilute the Gutter Zap. I have a house cleaning job to do. Not getting paid to do the gutters, but thought I would spray on some GZ using a pump up or flojet pump and PW rinse off (i.e. no brushing), just to see how it works. Wondering what dilution I might get away with, considering this doesn't need to be a perfect job.

Bill,

Since I don't xjet the GZ, I mix it at about 3 parts water to 1 part GZ.

Therefore, I can often get by using 1-2 quarts of GZ per house, which keeps it fairly economical.

I have tried weaker mixing ratios and did not get the results I was looking for.

I think Mike Hughs uses it alot, maybe he will chime in here.

i mix it 2 to 1 and use a pump up sprayer to apply. On a really hot day, you might be able to get away with a weaker mixture, but I doubt it.

I sometimes, although very rarely, use an xjet to apply. Pretty messy for gutter zap. I try not to get it on other surfaces.

I happened to stumble upon this picture today...........this job was done about three months ago. The Gutter Zap in my pump up sprayer is dilluted roughly 2 to 1. Sprayed on and immediately power washed off. No brushing.

Mike, I have a house to wash tomorrow morning. The temp. forecast is high 40's to low 50's. Would you normally mix it a little stronger?
Thanks,

yes, I would. Just wet everything else down first. I dont like to get it on the house or windows, etc if possible. Also, keep it off of patio furniture and the like.

To be honest, I dont remember exactly. It's not cheap. Its been a while since I bought some. Somewhere around $60 or so for a five gallon pail.

Not trying to start anything but that is a complete rip off! The stuff I had a year ago cost 35 for 5gal. I was a spray on and spray off. Same stuff.

The stuff I use now. 5 bucks a gallon at a local discount store. Very light brushing and you have new gutters. :)

Timberland,
When you say that you use the same stuff and you buy it at a Discount store what is the name of this "Stuff" and what is the name of the store that sells it?? Also you stated that you pay around $35 for a 5 gal bucket, do you then dilute it with water??
If not then it may not be as good as a deal as you think it is.

I use a chemical called Miracle Wiz that I think is made by Hotsy that I pay around $45 for. I like the results but I can't say for sure its better then Gutter Zap because I have never used that.

Gutter Zap may very well be the best Gutter cleaning chemical out there which justifies the price difference but I wouldn't slam it by saying it is a rip off without never using it. Which leads me to my last Questions. How do you know its a ripoff without ever using it?? Or do you have experience with this product to justify that remark??

Timberland,

$35 for a five is a good price, but you can't find that stuff anymore, right?

As for the other stuff from a discount store, I avoid any products that require the use of a brush.

I will find it when I go back to IL. :) And yes I can dilute it 4 to 1 spray on rinse off.

The local stuff I won’t bother to tell you about since it does require brushing and seems to be an issue. How ever it's very minor and works great. It's comes in a 1.5 gallon container for 4.87

I use a 25 foot pole light weight. To be honest you don't waste as much product and it’s easier than the effort to set up the sprayer, then spray and then rinse. And it's local.

As for my other cleaner that I will have again very soon. It' is better or at least as good as gutter zap.

No I never tried it. But people say you spray it on and rinse. Sometimes minor brushing. Dilutes 2 to 1

My stuff you never brush, is half the price and dilutes 4 to 1

So I feel I have the right to say what I feel and know. If you want to use gutter zap go for it. For those that want the local info email me.

As for the good stuff! When I go back to IL. I will see if they ship out of state and will share with who ever wants a great product at a fair price.

Or maybe I will be the next chemical guy to pop up. Hey I got a good reputation. Maybe I'll be rich :)

Go for it.

Hey maybe we could be partners on that getting rich stuff,I can make chemicals and have several formulars.I can make a degreaser/cleaner that would melt anything off and a alumu.brightener that cuts though hardwater stains easy.I'll do the leg work if you'll do the paperwork, split 50/50.We could both pop our feet up and look at the lake when we get rich:D .
