Grant likes to wear funny hats.

Well, technically he was right, any duct or fan can be removed. In fact I'm going to rethink one of my recent bids. I'm going to raise it about $150,000.00 and just remove the duct from the building, all 70 ft' of it and bring it back to my shop and clean it. I think I need to hire a construction Forman now, maybe a license upgrade as well, and a truck driver for a oversize load, a flag car and I think that may require a state police escort.

Ok I'm going to re rethink this and just install some access panels and clean it in place.

I got the same fax. What a laugh! I give em three months top.
I am curious as to how much they bid. Does the Freedom of Information Act pass down to government sub contractors?

I can't wait for the complaint calls to come in ......that base will eat that company alive.

I give it 6 months tops. Wait til they get really frustrated with the problems and request a meeting with a supervisor - the indian guy will have to "fix the problems" if he can find them first.

YEah, you need to call the purchasing agent that awarded the contract and ask for a bid tabulation. It iwll tell you what everyone bid. You can also protest the award, and it is a fairly common practice. You just need to have a valid reason, other than price. If you do, they could possibly throw his low bid out. Sometimes, Governments will go with the low bid because they have to, but if someone protests with a valid excuse, they are more than happy to throw it out. Sometimes, it just needs to be enough of an excuse so that they can get someone else, because they don't really want the low bidder.

I do a lot of government stuff. I have also seen a lot of "strange" stuff.;)

Amen to that. You are probably right about protesting the award....the procedure is probably in the fine print....the solicitation was about 2 inches thick. I wonder what it'll take to protest??

Just to tell them how much it'll cost to clean a bunch of hoods requires over 1 inch of paperwork

Too bad I do not get paid per page!

All you need to do is write them a letter. If Grant wrote one as well, it would be better. Some of the main points are that the competition might not have experience with large systems, lack of training or certification from IKECA, or another recognized organization, Employees that have a questionable legal status, and profitability. These are just a few of the highlights. Call me if you want a few more high points.

I lost a bid on 9 Backyard Burgers to a guy that doesn,t even go on the roof.. This is crazy. I have gone by there on occasion and in one case even showed the manager of one of the Backyard Burgers that my competitor is not cleaning the roof. I was told by the manager that the company that is cleaning them now stated in there contract that the hood and filters and plenum will be cleaned the roof and fans will not be cleaned unless there is roof access provided.. This is stupid , I guess they don.t know what a ladder is.. Anyhow I bid $ 300.00 per store.. I was sent a fax about 6 months ago when the bidding was taking place ,,, the winning bid was an average of like $ 175.00 per store.. ( How do they do it ) They don't clean it right for one and then there cheap as hell for two.......there ought to be a law against doing things the wrong way....

I lost a bid to clean the Kroger Stores in Mississippi last month... The winning Bidder was at about $ 32,000.. Which comes to about $ 100.00 per store..
Where is the gas money in this , It cost me $100.00 to drive from Jackson to Tupelo..

One day all of these fly by night guys with no insurance are going to start burning stuff down and then , even after our insurancee sky rockets,, We will remain victorious. We can Charge What we want when we want AMEN... and I got to go to work...

Maybe you got some false numbers John, either that or there simply not being truthfull with you. I come across this kind of stuff sometimes.
Who is the top end decision maker? Approach them and show them whats going on.Sometimes they will give you Bogus numbers if they have allready signed with someone else. If the numbers are true? It wont br to long before its up for bid again.

Maybe the other company knows the Big Cheese or they have established a relationship with them.
Hell- probobly there cousin. LOL
Keep pluggin away boys. Were winning, aren't we?

JohnB,
I think it's a common thing for the hacks to only clean a system from the inside and/or leave a huge mess on the restaurant roofs when they are done.
We get requests on a regular basis to clean the roofs(not any of the KEC system) of the McDonalds we do flatwork for.Up until now I have refused telling them they need to call the KEC company back and have them take care of it.
Why would you clean the exhaust system and not clean the mess you make on the roof? How would you go about cleaning just the roof? and how much to charge?

Cleaning the roof of a McDonalds. If the water will stand in one place, which it will on many stores, I use my vacuum and pressure washer. Scrape up any heavy grease, scrub in some degreaser rinse with hot water, vac it up, repeat an needed. You may need to soften the grease with the hot water first, then scrape. BTW my vacuum has a drain valve that I hook a garden hose to and drain the water into the store. A big mess will take some time and effort.

Wow...That Account looks like Anthony's neck of the woods..or Desert rather...does this place have 29 in the name? Or is this in Ocean Slime?
