I'm looking to get a idea of what to charge a city for Graffiti removal. they whant two set of prices 1. is based on per sq.ft. and the other is based on a flat rate or hourly rate. any info would be a great help.

Your price
depends on your equipment,materials and overhead.
Your price might need to be higher or lower then me.
If i have a 7 GPM unit with hot water and use a soda blasting attachment. Then i might be faster then you but i need to charge for the extra equipment,extra fuel,the soda,and wear and tear.
Plus time spent setting up,buying the soda,picking up the soda,ect...
You might just have a cold water rig in a trailer,no shop,no soda blaster,ect....
dont forget your going to need a pretty big supply tank.
In your neck of the woods this kind of work can keep you working 24/7.
Notice how much i mentioned SODA BLASTING.
No chem,no epa,and from what i see it works the best.
You can also get into cleaning boats,kitchen equipment,rust stains,monument cleaning,finnish removal,ect...
with this type of equipment.
WADU is the name your looking for in blasting equipment.
Do a search on this site with that keyword or soda blasting.

Several years ago one the the cities in our area wanted me to sign a 25 page contract for Graffiti Removal.
We would need to respond within 18-24 hours of a call and they would tell us how they wanted the Graffiti removed! In most cases this would be on private buildings not owned by the city. Also in many cases we would have to bill the building owner!
I told them thanks but no thanks.

I'm in the process of bidding on a couple of city contracts for graffiti removal and I was wondering if anyone ever came up with an hourly charge for it.
The bid scope calls for different pricing options:
by the hour, plus material costs

Exact same thing Dave Olson talks about above is what happens up the street from me over in the hood. I came up on a closed down building that had red paint all along it around the whole thing. This was New years eve and a contractor was sitting in parking lot waiting for his paint runner to bring him some paint from HD to maks over it. Said they do that whole city by painting contract.

Painting over it wasn't one of the specifications of the bid. I'm just trying to come up with a decent price for hourly graffiti removal. My normal minimum rate is $250.00 but I'm considering raising the price on this bid.

A couple of questions
OK i removed some graffiti about 2 weeks ago i used taginator it was on white unpainted brick. i was pretty pleased and the PM was happy with it there was a little shadow left so i thought i would go back and maybe do a second application of taginator. As i get there i suppose the city had been there are something because there was a latex paint rolled over it so the shaddow was gone buttt hey look at those hoodlems did it again fresh graffiti over the latex paint (first picture) so i talk to the PM and told him whats going on they tell me to go a head and remove it so i apply and did a the taginator instructions said applied waited 30-40 minutes and hit it with pressure. Some came off but it left a good amount of shadow (2nd picture) so i did another application waited 30-min and hit it again shadow did not budge. First question. On the bottle of taginator it says fully restores brick after high pressure rinse should i call them? Second, should i try shadow max? third, i have read that you have to use hot water to fully restore is this true? i was only using cold water. And last question, i have my own caustic can i make me a batch of that and see how it works? Any help would be appreciated sorry so much questions.[/ATTACH]

We had the very fortunate experience last week to remove some tagging with a new product we were testing from BK Enterprises. It's called Elite Graffiti Remover (http://www.mybke.com/graffiti-removal-products.php?s=41) Roger thinks it should be renamed to "Awesome-Ass Graffiti Remover" Rolled it on, garden hosed it off - the paint literally just melted away - no shadowing. We had two passerby's stop by to comment on how well we cleaned

It worked like magic - unbelievable! The brick was yellow, not white but that's not your standard red either!
Honestly, I'm not sure on the pricing as we were testing the product, but rest assured, I'll know soon because we're stocking up. The stuff is phenomenal.

Celeste have you used a lot of other graffiti removers and if so does this blow them out of the water? I just hate shadows and want them gone

Okay, the thread started six years ago, but there have been posts this year, so we're good, right?
I hope Michael Borrelli and anyone else who wanted to know about bidding jobs got the information they needed. I may be able to dredge up something on area (sq. ft.) vs. hourly.
Anyway, to answer garyw's question, I tried Motsenbocker's #4, and it kinda worked, but then again, I was kinda following the instructions, too. I didn't have a pressure washer or even a hose available in the place I tried it, so that probably made a big difference.
It is partly acetone, and like many of the other graffiti-removal chemicals, "also contains trade secret ingredients." (Quoting from the MSDS there.)
From what I've seen, it looks like most of the better-known chems contain potassium hydroxide (KOH) in various concentrations and weights or volumes or whatever. (I am not a chemist, nor do I portray one on TV. But I did go to a HazMat Operations class once. )
BKE's Elite contains 5-10% KOH, and also has 30-60% ethanol and 10-30% of a proprietary "Solvent Naphtha (Petroleum)." There are a couple of other proprietary ingredients in there, too.
BK Enterprises now has all new (02/09) Product Data Sheets and Material Safety Data Sheets for their anti-graffiti products on their site.
Since the WADU was mentioned in here, too, who else is using one? I just got mine yesterday. I'm still planning on doing dry soda-blasting some day, but the WADU and a good hot/cold pwasher will be a lower cost overall than any of the dry soda pots I've looked at (Eastwood, etc.) plus a 30 HP compressor.
I've also noticed there don't seem to be many compressors that are powerful enough and portable (i.e., not 240/480 volt, three phase). Trailer-mounted units aren't "portable" enough for some of my uses.
