Got the Bucket Truck Lettered

Christopher

I got the truck back from the shop yesterday at closing time, I think they did a great job but they forgot to put the logo on 2 sides of the bucket, I will have to take the truck back next week for that.

We did not do anything to the tool boxes, need to sandblast and repaint them.

My camera does not take that good of pictures or maybe it is my monitor. hahahahahahaha

What do you think?

Looks good on my end Chris. Damn that thing is a beast. Hahaha!

I really like that truck! It goes up 60' high so I can do a lot of building cleaning with it, have rented it out to other contractors for pressure washing, tree trimming, Air Conditioner lifting up onto roofs and window cleaning.

It has a winch with 2000 pound capacity to lift things.

Now with lettering and the logo, I think I might get more work out of it.

I got it used and got a great deal in the winter last January. Typically they will be around $25,000 and up used. I got a really good deal, better than that. hahahahaha

That is a great idea Ron, I need to find a good place to park it but after the bucket has the logo on it, more advertising.

Chris, you might want to check the OSHA regulations on lettering the bucket. Since that is an old line truck, it might not be permitted due to dielectric concerns. There also might be concerns on how the glue from teh lettering reacts with the fiberglass of the bucket.
People will see the lettering on the arm long before they see the lettering on the bucket.

That truck does have a lot of tool boxes on it. My brother told me that if I ever lost my house I could rig up a tank and live in the truck and have a shower in the toolbox. hahahahaha

We took the truck to Pasadena last year after the Hurricane but found most of the work had been done so we didn't stay. We loaded up those tool boxes with supplies, took a full day to load. hahahahaha

The best deal on top quality vinyl lettering and logo's can be found at www.razr.com

Applying the vinyl is very easy. The only exception is applying over riv its, takes a heat gun and some practice.

I have done all my own vinyl on our 3 vehicles and my enclosed trailer.

Can't beat the prices at www.razr.com Give you an example. I recently rented a light plant from United rentals. I watched in amazement as the yard worked took 10 minutes to get the light plant attached to the 2" ball hitch on my truck. He even had to break out o long prybar to get in to seat. Once he was done, I asked him "you sure that's going to hold"? He stated "oh yea". 4 blocks away from the United rental yard all of a suddeb BAM, BAM, BAM. Looking in my rearview mirror I could see the light plant had come off the hitch.

The boom of the light plant slammed into my tailgate, causing several dents. Turned in the estimates to get my tailgate replaced and the vinyl lettering replaced. Went to a local vinyl shop, quoted me $225.00 to replace and install the vinyl. I contacted Mike at www.razr.com. Sent me the replacement vinyl, $12.00 shipped.

United rentals has now refused my claim, stating that since I do not have any witnesses when the light plant did the damage, they will not honor the claim.

That has taught me all I need to know about United Rentals. I now have accounts at Sunbelt and SunState. Will never deal with United rentals again. $1167.00 out of pocket to replace my tailgate. Ironically, I had 3 boom lifts scheduled for 7 days with United rentals for a job in 2 weeks. Canceled that reservation, reserved at Sunbelt, and they are cheaper by about 25%.

Anyways, contact Mike or Jill at www.razr.com You won't be disappointed.

That is a good concern Scott, thanks. I did not think about that.

I want to have dielectric testing done on it this year, I did not have it done last year but I want to start having it done.

I will ask the shop that does the testing done about the issues of the letters.

Jim, what is the process of cleaning and applying the vinyl?

I don't know how they clean the surface but this shop does all the police, emergency, ambulances, larger comanies, etc... they have the best reputation in town.

I am not sure that I would try something like this without seeing it done, I have not seen anyone do the vinyl letters and stickers and I don't have good luck when doing things like this so I take it and have it done.

Thanks for that info Jim. Here in vegas everybody wants to bang you out of your hard earned dollars.

That is a good point, but a non issue. The tests performed ultimately test for continuity from the bucket to the ground. A line mans lift will have a fiberglass section of boom in it for the main current break. what you really have to watch is using the correct grease on your lift cylinders and boom pin cylinders. There are non conducting bushings in there that require a non conductive grease. These are the little issues that can get you in trouble.

Nice truck, good luck with it!

Thanks for the info Mark, I did not know about that.

How long have you had that rig Chris?

I bought that Bucket Truck in January last year up in Rochester, New York.

A friend of mine and myself drove it back to Texas, took 4.5 days with the snow blizzards, whiteouts, etc...

Thats crazy. I bet you had alot of bar stops.

No stops at bars or sight seeing on that trip home.

We were in a hurry to get back, I had jobs to do and since he was a professional truck driver, he had his full-time job to get back to.

I was paying him more than what he made driving for that company but it took an extra day because of the weather so it cost me more than what I planned so we drove as much as we could to get back soon.

Since he is a professional truck driver, we were logging our hours so if we got stopped by DPS or state troopers or sheriff's, we had our books in order and no potential for fines there.

If it was me by myself, I would have driven longer and further then got rest, we did go over the scales all over the place but did not get pulled over since the truck was legal.

Prep the surface that you are applying the vinyl to with rubbing alcohol, removes all the wax, etc. Razr will send you detailed instruction on how to apply the vinyl. It's simple bro.
