Donation has protesters eating their words

It was a truce of sorts, delivered between two slices of bread.

Food: from law enforcement in Tampa to hungry protesters camping out at Romneyville, the unofficial headquarters of the many activists who gathered to protest the Republican National Convention this week.

'I give them the most props of any police agency we've seen,' said 28year-old Brendan Hunt of Occupy Wall Street.

The boxed lunches - sandwiches, fruit and ice-cold bottled water - came after police heard that protesters were getting low on provisions. It didn't help that the big blue schoolbus-turned-kitchen that had been parked at Romneyville all week left for New Orleans on Thursday morning, to help hungry people there.

So, in their telltale khaki, the officers - who have had several tense moments with protesters - during the week showed up to help.

One by one, they unloaded more than 100 lunches to the beleaguered camp. People posted photos on Twitter, incredulous. They said, 'Thank you.' 'The police went out of their way to not only be civil, but to be welcoming,' Hunt said.

It had Romneyville organizer Bruce Wright, who earlier this week griped about police coming too near the privately owned camp, eating his words.

'Ironically,' Wright said, 'today it was the police who came to our rescue.'

Well said Jon. Mike P. Here is a boss and he has the respect of his fellow Police Officers. The majority of the cops I know would out there lives on the line to protect the citizens against the skells that are out there.

Unfortunately the ones like Tony Shelton don't want to know what the good cops do because it doesn't fit his hate agenda towards them...but speaking from experience when I showed up at a serious auto wreck minutes before the Ambulance did and most times I was the one calling them Forthwith, I know those Moms,Dads,kids,teenagers etc. Were happy to see help has arrived even though some had to be cut out of vehicles, medivact out of there or whatever it took to help them out....

Where not bad guys and don't by into Tony's rants that because our number one priority is to lock up other cops according to his derange beliefs is not at the top of the Police officer on the streets mind. It's helping those who need it and when they need it... Where there. I miss that since I retired but not the calls where they died. That sickens my stomach and guys like Tony will never know what we go through or how many times we put ourselves in the line of danger to do our job which is to serve the public. But his mind is shut so hopefully he never has a day of disaster where he needs the men and ladies in blue to help him because they are there to do just that.....
 
Please John. Stop. That is what you signed up for.

You don't hear paramedics whining about getting no respect. Or firemen.

Or the countless others who help people on a daily basis.

I was SP in the Navy for a year. If we came up on people and told them "get on the ground m#ther%ucker " or any of the other such disrespectful things you say and do to people who have committed minor infractions or are just SUSPECTED of a crime we would have been taken off duty in a second.

You don't get respect as a whole because you don't give it.

Quit whining about it. You had 20 years to make a difference and you chose a pension instead. Live with that choice. But please don"t insult our intelligence by trying to defend it.

You got it all wrong Tony. First off I served this country with the USN for 4 yrs. Some of the greatest experiences in my life. I then did just about 25 yrs serving the public as a Police officer. Why in the world you ever think that good cops do there job are still bad in your mind... I'm not in the right profession to think what's going on upstairs in your head.

I earned the respect of my family friends and others. You on the other hand just whine and whine Because your convince all Cops are bad. What really happened to you to spew so much hate? What happened? You hate the PWNA,you hate Jim Gamble,You hate the EPA, You hate Cops and fireman, you hate our Gov't. It just never ends with you.

Something happened to you because your rant and raves are disturbing so what is it? We saw your born again baptismal on the net years ago and from there you went on some type of witch hunt with people, groups,your friends etc.

Mike P. Is a heck of a nice guy but your judging him. Why are you of all people doing that. Your basically a bible thumper that wants to preach the word of your God but where does it say to judge so many good people to be bad and not up to your forefathers standards?

I know you ain't crazy because we use to connect. Somewhere someone has sold you a line of bull and you bought into all of it hook line and sinker. Maybe you should revaluate yourself and see where it is your going wrong. The every day cop and fireman are not your enemies. Neither are your fellow Powerwashers. I feel sorry for you bro because it's not healthy to hate all the time and work yourself up doing it. Last year I'm sure your Doctors and your family probably told you to stop it cause your only causing yourself grief.

I truly feel bad for you and I hope you find the "light" and it leads you to a much more pleasant existence because hatred and judging all the time is going to send you 6' under much earlier then you will ever expect. Stressing over these things will take a toll on you like it did last year.. I hate to see you go thru that again....and thru it all I know your a truly nice guy that just gets lost on the net... This is a Powerwashing site in case you have forgotten...
 
John, I hate injustice, liars and opportunistic abusers of our system.

Just so happens the names you named fall under one or more of those categories.

My stroke in 2010 made me realize my time here may be short. I won't spend it being a coward. Not for popularity, not for a pension, not for financial security.

The way the police treat people in this country is wrong, and your threats of "suicide by cop" mean nothing to me. And my family is behind me 100%.

First off "suicide by cop" means a person snaps where they want the cop to kill him and if the Cop doesn't then they may very well kill the cop. If you ever come across this out in Vegas where a deranged person you see pointing a gun at a cop because he obviously wants to kill him, don't break out your phone camera and sit there and video tape it so you can crap all over the cop who's life is in imminent danger. I hope you would be man enough to pull your own firearm and shot that deranged person dead before he kills the cop who may be a son,father,husband to his family.

You just want to join the rank of the crazies who probably some want the cops to beat the crap out of them and to maybe even watch the "Suicide by Cop" Scenario.

Your family probably hates all the ranting and raving and the hatred you spew on the net. There's law enforcement in yours and your wife's family I think you said in the past. Do they know your so inconsiderate and disrespectful towards my fallen brothers and sisters who died doing there job? Do they know your stance on Freed Child Molestors to be able to roam the streets and not have to be classified as a sex offenders because they should have the same rights good people have?

You home school your daughter who my family had the honor to meet. Are you home schooling her to hate law Enforcement? how about hate in General? You and Jim Gamble were friends. Spent time at each others houses. Broke bread together.. And now you hate him so much you'll go into his scope of employment and video tape his area's and knocking the doors of the EPA or whatever officials yourndealing with down there to try and hurt Jim. You hate that much.

I don't think your family believes in your preposterous support of Child Molesters and I also don't believe they hate Law Enforcement and Fireman because you do.

You fell of the track of reason. You need to find your God again to help you see straight because your getting blinded and controlled by the wrong type of people.... You have lost your way and I do feel sorry for you. You need to pray for help because your getting a bit sidetracked with life.

Police command my respect . They deal with society at there lowest point everyday . No matter how trivial the mistake they are called in to mediate. They see people at there worst,physically ,mentally and emotionally.talk about stressful !

We on the other hand have great job satisfaction. People are happy to see us and happier when we leave! All because the dirt is gone. Then there are the hacks out there that give us a bad name . People who get into situations they can't handle and get in over there head. I get called in a lot now to fix mistakes more then ever! The bad people get weeded out over time. Pretty simplistic.

I live in one of the safest cities in the US for a population of 100000. We have a great PAL ( police athletic league ). A huge success and run by cops. The ex Police Chief was just elected Mayor and he's the one who revamp the PAL for kids. We have had 2 Mayors and the ex Governor which is from my city go to jail over the last two decades. The bad gets caught over time!
