Going Full-time

I'd stay part time and READ READ READ right here on PWI

Work all night, Work all weekend, every weekend.

Take every dime you make and put it into a 5-6gpm hot machine for cash.

Then

Work all night, Work all weekend, every weekend.

Get Jobs wherever you can. If you are asked about it get workers comp and exempt yourself. It will be cheap. Just don't be a d*ck and try to sue somebody if you get hurt while you're trying to startup.

Don't hire anybody unless it's from a temp agency with their own workers comp.

Take all the money you make on PW and put it in the bank until you have enough to pay all your bills for 1 year.

Go full time when you've got the money in the bank and you have enough contracts to pay all your bills each month and can pay your workers comp and business insurance in full for the entire year.

Just my 3 cents. (Jim's got the 2c thing.)

I like that show too, but how is that going to help him in pressure washing???:p :D

I made the leap and cold turkey. I had no clue what I was getting into and would not advise anyone to do such. I left a great job with a company car, benefits, health paid and a pretty good salary for a 23 yr old kiddo. I began with cars on lots, noticed that the money just didn't go as far as I hoped it would.

Don't make this mistake. Do the research and try to work weekends untill your business inter fears with your day job.

Here is a perfect example of what you could end up being if your not careful.

Tonight, we noticed some guys cleaning a property. They had 2 cold water units, one was a 2300 psi 3in1 ryobi crap from HD, and another 2500psi cold water unit. They were cleaning a Sonic. the guys heart is in the right place because he is a preacher and donates all money to his church. He pays his helpers with some of the proceeds and they are either drug or alcohol recoveries. This in general is a great testimony for his commitment to bettering the lives of others however he is making my life hell. Charging 8.00 per stall and not removing any gum. No insurance, no nothing. And we all wonder why we fight tooth and nail with PM's and other decision makers when they hear we do pressure washing. This is the main reason these stores are not wanting to pay the permium price to have it done right as well as other properties. The general consensis in my area when they hear you do pressure washing is an ex-con tatted all up with no professionalism and manners. They have no clue that the person they are talking to might make more money in a night then they do all month however its the general view upon our industry at this time in my market and all over for that matter.

Please educate yourself, talk with others in your area, take Russ up on his offer ( I'd even take him up next time he is around just to get another view at someones operation and see ways to become more efficient) This is the best place to start with your journey. I have done really well for myself in this industry with the short time I have been in it. I started cleaning concrete solely last november and have acquired a nice rocking chair fund from it however it takes time and education to get to that point. Attend Round tables, networking events, and speak to others in your area. If they are not willing to help you out then they will be way behind you in the future when you do decide to take this up full time.

Next you need to decide would it be better for you to get a Direct Drive unit, or a Belt Drive unit?

The only time that this should be an option when doing this as a business is in the event that you can not get or do not have the money for a belt drive. If you want a machine to last that will be doing more than your own house more than once or twice a year, direct drive wont cut it. Plus they end up being far more expensive because they just do not last.
