General Pump

Due to supply problems for our primary pump (Wheatley) we are in the process of changing to a General TSF 2221.

Would like anyone to comment on what we should expect from this pump as far as repairs, performance, etc. What spare parts should we keep on hand? What operating problems should we expect? We will be using a Baird by-pass relief valve rather than a standard unloader.

We put the two pumps on the floor next to each other (picture attached). Wow it sure is little! This pump will run about 3-1/2 times faster than our old pump!

Thanks for your replies.

Like everything new it will go away. The old one was built to buy two in your life. I have owned so many new pumps that i cant even give you a number. fixing and packing will happen. But when something major happens you will find replacement is faster cheaper and more cost effective. they just dont build the new stuff like the old days.

Dave,

Out of the pumps, General is you best bet. AR is starting to come around in pumps but hands down General is a sure thing and parts are inexpensive. They also last longer than the competitors. Just stay away from Legacy pumps.

Hello Mike,

Flow is 10.1 gpm @ 3000 psi. We are using the Baird by-pass relief valve that we have always used. We can dial up the pressure anywhere we want up to 3000.

So far it is working Ok. Still trying to find a vibration isolator so it will not make so much noise! Here is a picture of it mounted where the other (Wheatley) pump was. Still need to install guards.

Great choice! General is a Great pump.
If you treat your Pump right it will treat you right.
Keep an eye on the Oil and don't over pressurize.

Hello John,

Thanks for your reply.

We hooked up a duel feed to the pump. Was told that would help reduce the noise. Seems to run a little smoother but still noisy!

How often should the oil in the powerend be changed? What type of oil? How much over pressureization can this pump handle if any?

Thanks,

Dave Olson

General TSF Series

We were one of the first to use the TSF Pump on Pressure Washers. Initially we had a few problems with the valves "chattering" right out of the box. Come to find out it was a minor problem that General has corrected.

In answer to your question - we have had no problem with the performance or longevity of this pump and we have a few hundred in the field. Expect to replace packing as frequently as you do with other pumps and the repair kit are about 50% more that typical GP kits but 1/2 the price of Cat kits.

I will stack the TSF series ahead of any pump on the market. The specifications are accurate and the change over is simple.

We do prefer the YU-2140 unloader.

Also, if you are running from a water tank you should not need a helper pump so long as you feed the TSF with a 1" feed hose. It has an incredible vacuum.

If you need any more information please call me directly.

John
