Foaming an Arby's Hood

I got an idea on the out of town jobs ... I'll get my buddy with his Trans Am to run out in front of me and then will get there quicker. It could work.. Th only thing is that 300 straight six in my truck has trouble climbing hills with the trailer.. I once had to down shift into 3 rd gear just to get up a hill but on the way down I was really flying... Then I found out those really nice white letter wide ass tires I have on my truck slide real good in the rain....
 
Man that movie sucked a** .....but alot of beautiful dumb ladies went so I'm in.

You've got to adjust your mix, and use the right equipment. A $50 foamer will not foam effectively, your extinguuisher rig was closer to a working foamer model. Keep trying, you can foam anything and get better results than just caustic soap, you just have to get your process right.

If you like the bottle type foamer check out Lafferty Equipment. Look at the 5 and 16 gallon model. If you make the right foam you will love it on the BK Broilers. I foam a Bonzi style chem and it saves me loads of razor scraping and water usage. The wet foamers you are trying just dont work because of the dilution rate from the water used as the carrier. All it does is add a little cling at a highly diluted rate.
Take a look at Lafferty it may give you some ideas if you are set on building your own.

I have a Lafferty FPS-PD dual line foamer. It is simular to the stainless steel tank foamer. But w/o the tank. All I need is air linr to unit and chemical mix jug. Has a trigger gun for instant on/off.

John with out a foamer & compressor set up you are not going to get what you want. About a grand at least to foam correctly. We tried all kinds of other stuff with out sucess until I bought a foamer & compressor, almost 1300.00 complete setup. It is not a cheap investment & unless I was doing a good amount of hoods I don't know if I'd go that way. I personally do between 60 to 80 hoods a month.
 
I tried the grease bullet ...and well it sort of works.. I don't think it was made for a pump up sprayer.. I think it's made for the sink... Then to try it even further since i had to finish up the hood cleaning with good old caustic.. I poured what was left in a sink and soaked one of those whack fryer filters that BK fryer hoods use and it didn't work.. Oh well I only lost about an hour of time..

I have come to the conclusion that I need to upgrade my stuff.. I am thinking I need a heavy magnetic scraper.. Those thin razor blade scrapers work good but not on heavy burnt on grease..
If we could trust that all duct work is sealed and welded tight we could just set the duct work on fire ( a controlled burn ) and then wash it out with a pressure washer and it would be real clean.. But what happens if you can't put out the fire ???? and you would have to pin the fire system !!!

Ok bad idea.. Maybe a Heated scraper... Thats it we need a scraper/iron >>> Like a flat blade soldering iron..... This would work ...

I need to get me a new camera that will record video with sound ... I need about 1 hour worth of video with sound....

I can see it now " The other guys take before and after pictures but now with B&R you get an entire video of each and every hood cleaning.." Now thats a selling tool""

Well i got to finish watching the rest of Anchorman again for like the 20th time.......
And then it's off to work

You need the Really EZ magenetic scraper from Guardian Power in NY.

And you could contact Bryan Exhaust or Dodson Hood and Duct about those controlled fires. They are knowledgeable on the latest NFPA lit squirrel practices. Good luck!!
 
Back on the foam-for-cheap topic, Steve fabricated one for us that does a bang-up job, real shaving cream type foam. Total cost if you don't have some of the components is around $200. He's building another over the next week or so, documenting what went where (there was a lot of fiddling and trial and error), so pretty soon we'll have plans for anyone interested. If you already have the right size air compressor and a syrup can, cost is between $50 and $75.

Steve's building another one. We're taking photos of each step...happy to send copies when we're done. Real shaving cream type foam....my guys say it works great.
