Fleet Washing

Hello People, I am thinking about getting into Fleet Washing but do not know much about it or if I will even like it. I was wondering if there is anyone that I could go train with for a day or a couple of days like on the weekend to learn more about Fleet Washing. Please let me know. Thanks.

I've already responded to your question on Grime Scene. You could talk to Mike Hinderliter from Steamaway since he's in your back yard. He's the expert on brushing while we would be considered the experts on two-step cleaning. (Personally I've always felt that brushing is just too much work!) We're quite a distance from you tho' in Minnesota!:p
 
Fleet washing is hard work and in my opinion it is the area where you make the least amount of money in pressure washing. You have to be EXTREMELY competitive with your pricing (more so than residential & commercial) and the chems get pretty pricey. I am not saying that other areas in pressure washing are not this way, but IMHO this is what I feel and have experienced.

When you get into commercial vehicles i.e trash trucks, semi's, moving trucks, you are more than likely going to have to whip out the scrub brush and put some elbow grease into it. You can also expect to be cleaning windows & mirrors. This is a service that we offer on all washes and it sets us apart.

So basically - Fleet washing pays the least and is the hardest to do....Not to scare you off or anything!! :D
 
PWP has some valid points. The money you can charge depends on what due your competition charges and also what "perks" you have to offer. As is the case with every service, there is always some who is only price shopping, but the market isn't driven by those type of people only. One thing that is nice about it compared to flatwork is that its repeat business so you can depend on regular money coming in most of the time. Another thing is that you don't need to spend a lot on advertising like flat work does AND you don't deal with the public like flatwork does much of the time. You deal with the fleet managers who usually just want to pick somebody and move on to bigger problems, so unless you really screw it up they forget all about you earning a regular paycheck off of them. Do you know what your competitors are charging?
 
Chris, When you meet me this weekend to train with us you can see what I have in life from just fleet washing and make a decision from there. You don't get where I am in life from not making money. Everyone has their own opinion and maybe some just aren't doing it right when it comes to fleets, but when you go out and wash a fleet, 2 hours and make $750.00 and its there every other week and you never have to go look for any other work ever, get 76 accounts 5 trucks, and 2 subcontractors because you're tired of taking on new work and Quit advertising and take all the names off your trucks so no one will call....well you do the figures. One thing you will never here me talk about is what can I do to better my business in addvertising. In the past I have done everything else, just to do like everyone is talking about here wondering what to do about advertising and promoting my business because if the jobs you get aren't repete enought you are always looking for new work and wondering what next weeks income will be. Fleets are always there, week after week, steady regulated income. If you want to get greedy like I did in the past, do hoods at night. More regular income and you can get to many of those to.
Every wash company has to find their nitch in life. Try it all and you will find yours. Just be good and honest and wash the opposite from what all the other wash companies are doing in your area. No one likes fleets here in this area either. Go figure!
