I have a client of mine that wants 19 fleets washed once a week. They are box trucks and vans. They want all 19 cleaned in two hours. They said they are only looking for a detergent sprayed on the vehicles then rinsed off with DI water. And lastly they want all the tires shined.

What would you guys charge per vehicle? They told me the last company was doing it for $7.50 a vehicle. I thought that was WAY CHEAP! But they said if I can match their price they would give me the work. I don't even know if it will be worth my time. What do you guys think?

Also, what do you use to shine tires? Just good old Armorall?

I don't do a lot of fleet work but this might be a good opportunity for me to pick up a DI.
 
$142.50 won't pay for your DI. Give it back to fleet wash. Guess why the last company isn't doing them anymore? Never let a customer set your prices.

We pay $65 for our DI tank. Not sure what it cost where you are at. Depending on how hard your water is, you should be able to get 1000-3000 gallons per tank. We have great water here so I get right at 3000 gallons. Cost me 0.021 per gallon of water. With that said if it took you 5 min per truck to wash at 25 gallons of water. The cost would be 0.525 per truck or 9.975 for the fleet plus chems. Should take you an 1 1/2 hours to complete.

I agree never let a client set your price. Do a demo and show them what you can do. We get $12 for box trucks and $9 for vans. One soaps down and another comes behind him and rinses. We do 32 milk delivery trucks a week. Takes us 2.66 hours with a cost of .98 per truck. $31.36 in water and chems and we collect $384.00

Half of what your saying is going over my head, but I get the money you get to clean a baffle filter.
 
I know of a company in town that does big trucks for $7.00, backhoes for $7.50 each, and is suppose to be reclaiming. Incomprehensible.

+3 don't let the customer dictate your price. $7.50 is about half of what you should charge. At that price you are working for your company you will never get ahead. you may make a little in the beginning but what happens when you blow a hose or have to rebuild your pump? There goes a months profit, your equipment costs money and needs to be repaired or replaced on a regular basis you need to figure the other costs of doing business in your expenses, not just raw materials.

Thanks for the help guys. Like I said I don't do a lot of Fleets...Good to know I wasn't the only one worried about the price! They are customers of mine that I do flat work for and I just mentioned washing their vehicles. Instantly, they told me the pricing. Now I know there is no reason to pursue.
 
and the tire dressing isn't cheap. $20-30 a gallon. And your time applying it.
 
P and S has a good tire dressing. Use a solvent based dressing. They last much longer. I dress the tires on the trucks of some of my clients
